FORTA 155 is a stand-alone STM-1 Optical Multiplexer that
provides 4/8/12/16 lines of T1/E1 tributary interfaces, a V.35
(Nx64Kbps) leased line interface, and an Ethernet over SDH
interface.
Each of FORTA 155’s T1/E1 tributary modules provides 4 lines of
E1/T1, and the interfaces can be configured to E1 or T1,
depending on individual requirements. A maximum of up to 16
lines of T1/E1 interfaces can be provided. FORTA 155 assists
service providers to deploy swift setup of optical networks, and to
extend their CO interfaces to support remote sites, which resolves
issues such as line shortage, and transmission distance limitations.
FORTA 155 adopts the FTTB (fiber to the building) and FTTC
(fiber-to-the-curb) optical network architecture. Together with other
telecommunication devices that include E1/T1 interfaces, such as
the E1 Multiplexer, DLC, Fractional E1/T1, and PABX, FORTA 155
can provide connections to various user sites, such as commercial
towers, residential buildings, remote towns, mobile phone base
stations, hospitals, and schools. FORTA 155’s transparent
transmission technology works by multiplexing E1/T1 signals onto a
single mode optical high-speed network; this will provide a wide
range of telephone, data and video services.
FORTA 155’s modular design conveniently allows network planning
divisions to invest at their own paces. FORTA 155’s Ethernet
interface allows service providers to operate under their existing
TDM infrastructure, which will enable providers to reuse the
network facilities on hand. It also allows providers to increase
modules, or upgrade software at their own pace, according to their
individual planning schedules and customer requirements, which
will enable existing TDM networks to seamlessly migrate to a Next
Generation IP Network.
FORTA 155’s built-in SNMP Agent includes Ethernet interfaces,
which connect to the SNMP Network Management System. Userfriendly graphical interfaces (GUI) offer a comprehensive range of
OAM & P functions such as configuration, maintenance, fault
management, performance monitoring, and security management.
This richly integrated system simplifies operation procedures, and
cuts down on operational cost, thus helping service providers to
manage and update their network with ease and efficiency.

ETH
ZyFLEX
10/100 Ethernet Module
Ethernet over SDH Functions
General Description
The ETH Module provides Ethernet over SDH functions that conform to
ITU-T G.7041 Generic Framing Procedure (GFP), and ITU-T X.86 Link
Access Procedure- SDH(LAPS). It also supports the IEEE 802.3 10 /100
Ethernet network interface. ETH provides auto-sensing 10/100 Mbps
switching capabilities for efficient connectivity to servers, workstations
and others attached devices. Plug-and-Play usability, outstanding priceto-performance ratio, and flexible designs makes ETH a simple and
affordable solution for a wide range of applications.
The IEEE 802.3x standard-based flow control allows ETH to prevent
traffic congestion by informing attached devices to halt transmission.
When ETH detects that the buffer of each port is nearly full, attached
devices are requested to wait until new data can be accepted. Flow
control allows 100 Mbps full duplex connections between servers and
ETH, with minimum data transfer loss.
Feature List
Brief Specification
◇ Enable the IP traffic tunnel through the existing SDH
network
◇ Realize the “Ethernet all the way” network infrastructure
◇ Conforms to IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, and 802.3x Ethernet
Standards
◇ Half-duplex mode for backpressure, and Full-duplex for
flow control
◇ Reduce the cost of operating and maintenance with
high performance SNMP management

Fiber Optical Interface Module
Standard SDH STM-1 Transmission
General Description
The FOI Module provides a STM-1 (155.52 Mbps) interface. FOI also
provides 1+1 protection switching to maintain transportation stability, as
well as a SCNP protection mechanism which meets ITU-T.G.841
standards. FOI also supports the manual set-up switch mode. Based on
performance monitoring, a protection switch threshold can be set up, to
indicate major alarms when the protection switch occurs.
Through the FOI Module, message and system information from the
remote terminal will be sent back to the local terminal. Users can use RS232 interface to connect to the CIT (Craft Interface Terminal), to control
the remote terminal or retrieve the system status and remote alarms. It
also connects to the network management system via Ethernet, to provide
a Graphical User Interface. The operation team can set up all kinds of
operation parameters, warning and operation controls, and the monitoring
of transport functions.

QET
ZyFLEX
Quad E1/T1 Tributary Module
Four Lines of E1/T1 Modules
General Description
FORTA155’s QET (Quad E1/T1) tributary module offer s two tributary
interfaces---T1 or E1 interfaces, which comply to 2,048 Kbit/s or 1,544
Kbit/s interface standards from ITU-T G.703/G.704/G.706.
QET ‘s Monitoring functions include data collection, and generation of
near end and far end efficiency parameters such as Error Second (ES),
Severely Error Second (SES), and Unavailable Second (UAS). This
information includes current and the most recent 96 bits of 15-minute
historical data for CV, ES, SES and UAS.
QET modules support hot-swappable functions. Adding or changing
modules during transmission will not affect ongoing services of T1/E1
modules. When modules are changed, or after power recovery, the
system will automatically upload the settings of the previous module, so
that no re-setup is necessary. Module Service signal LEDs (MODE), and
E1/T1 signal lights are located on FORTA 155’s front panel.

Nx64 Digital Transmission Interface
General Description
The NX64 module supports Nx64 (N=1~31) data leased line services.
The data rate provided by NX64 can be selectable from 64Kbps to
2.048Mbps in 64k increments. Each NX64 card provides four NX64 user
ports. NX64 is a multi-protocol data service card, and it will support V.35,
X.21 or RS-530.
Users can easily select the desired application from the CIT or NMS
interface. Via an optical link, this data service line card can allow service
providers to offer leased line services to their customers in remote areas
far away from the central office.
Various diagnostic loop back tests are also provided in NX64, and which
can assist field engineers and operators in troubleshooting, at field sites.
FORTA also works as an SNMP agent, and uses a user-friendly Graphical
User Interface (GUI) to connect with the counterpart of a SNMP manager.
Nx64 offers Service Providers a carrier-class management system for
mass-market deployment.
