Exatel is preparing the MPLS Carrier Ethernet network
Exatel commences the first stage of the construction of the Carrier Ethernet network. 44 new
network nodes, predominantly located within the Warsaw agglomeration, will facilitate the supply
of solutions to new customers, the initiation of cloud services and data transfers of up to 100 Gb/s.
The solution is being put together in cooperation with Atende, which is responsible for the
network construction and integration using Cisco equipment.
With the use of a popular MPLS transmission protocol within the scope of the Carrier Ethernet, Exatel
network will be unified in terms of data transfer standards. Connecting new customers to the
network and introducing new services for those already connected will be trouble free due to the
standardization.
MPLS Carrier Ethernet, together with the current Exatel backbone network with a bit rate of 40
G/bps will facilitate the provision of cloud based services to customers, such as Security as a Service
(new generation Firewall and Anti-DDoS).
- The project to build the Carrier Ethernet is the next stage in the updated Exatel strategy. The new
infrastructure will allow our company to satisfy the demands of our customers – primarily from the
financial industry – to provide the bit rates they require within the scope of a separate
and locally closed network. MPLS Carrier Ethernet is essential for the development of band leasing
services in a cost effective manner, for which there is a growing demand – said Wojciech Pomykała,
Exatel Chairman of the Management Board.
The construction, start up and implementation of the CE network will encompass two primary
services: Ethernet LINE and Ethernet LAN. Establishing point-to-point connections will be made
possible by the former. It is used for the transmission of large data packets between two locations
within a municipal network (MAN) or one with a national or even an international scope (WAN). The
Ethernet LAN service will facilitate the performance of multipoint-to-multipoint type connections. It
is a specific type of VPN services which allow for a connection of scattered LAN networks in such
manner that a user of an extensive corporate network is able to take advantage of all the capabilities
characteristic to a local network.
Cisco network devices such as series ASR 9000 and ASR 900 routers and ME 3600X and 3400 switches
will be used to build the network. The Carrier Ethernet network central management system will be
based on the Cisco Prime IP NGN. Atende will be responsible for its supply and start up.
Press release
- We are extremely happy to be able to take part in such an interesting and important project. We
have been providing advanced solutions for telecommunications operators for years. We will do our
utmost to be up to the challenge and contribute to the provision of an even better service by our
Partner, thanks to the use of state-of-the-art technical solutions – said Roman Szwed, Atende S.A.
Chairman of the Management Board.
Carrier Ethernet consists of extensive WAN networks working on the Ethernet standard which was
normally used in local LAN networks. The CE network popularity stems from the possibility of
providing new high bit rate services. This is possible with the use of Ethernet technology which is
more cost effective than the transmission protocols used to date, such as SDH or PDH.
According to the plans, the project is to be implemented by the end of 2013.

Exatel
Exatel is a leading telecommunications operator in Poland, providing services for enterprises, small and medium businesses as well as
public administration. It is a company of the PGE Capital Group. EXATEL S.A. manages the most modern transmission network in Poland
with DWDM bit rate of up to 9 Tb/s and IP / MPLS rate of 40 Gb/s. Our own network comprises of circa 20 thousand kilometers of cables,
and jointly with PGE S.A. we have over 30 thousand. The company has interconnections with about 80 of the largest domestic operators
and about 70 foreign operators allowing for data transfer, transit and termination of voice traffic through Central Europe. Exatel has also its
own data centre, and as an operator it is able to provide its customers not only with collocation services, but also data transmission and as
such, a comprehensive solution guaranteeing the highest quality. The facilities allow the company to implement cloud services based on
the highest security standards.
