MM3D Charts
• TimeZero uses exclusively Mapmedia .mm3d charts

• In the USA, Mapmedia converts NOAA Vector S57 (ENC)

Computer Preparation
• Windows 7 is the recommended Operating System
for any TimeZero software
• Use Windows Update before installing the software
• Update all of your drivers and make sure that the
third party drivers are compatible with Windows 7.
Pay special attention to video drivers (especially
with dedicated video board)
• It is highly recommended to have an Internet
Connection when installing the software
Software Installation: Packaging
• One DVD for the TimeZero software
No Dongle (only a serial number)
• Raster, Vector and 3D for the USA on 5 DVDs
• One Quick Start Card with Serial Number and basic
installation instructions
• Satellite Pictures and Fishing Charts are available:
– online as free downloads (on the MapMedia Catalog)
– using the MM3D External Hard-Drive
Software Installation: Process
• Software License is used (“Serial Number”)
• An “Activation” is required to authorize computer
• Fully automated process when an Internet
Connection is available
• Two Activations are possible per Serial Number
(two “Tokens”) with Odyssey and Trident (one with
Catch)
• Possible to “check-in” an activation (push a token
back to the activation server) by removing the
software
– Be sure to Uninstall the TZ Software to reclaim tokens
Installation: Automatic Activation
• When Internet is available, just enter the
Serial Number and Activate!
Installation: Manual Activation
• If Internet is not available, the codes have to be entered
manually:
– Activation Code: to authorize the software to run on the computer
– Unlock Module Code: to configure the software and Plus Pack
– Optional Chart Unlock Code(s): one per purchased chart area(s)
Software Installation: Codes Review
• The serial number (NB xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xx) is the
“identity” of the customer
• The Activation Code (AC xxxx….) allows the operator to
authorize the computer. This number is tied to a
specific “Site Code” (“fingerprint” of the computer)
• The Unlock Module (UM xxxx….) code allows to
configure the product (type/modules). There is only
one UM code (it contains all the plus pack)
• The Unlock Codes (UC xxxx…) allows to unlock the
charts. One Unlock Code per purchased chart area
• Reminder: If an Internet connection is available, you
only need to enter the Serial Number!
Installation Troubleshooting Tips
• Make sure drivers are up to date (Serial to USB
Adapters, Video Board,…)
Note: Old Video Drivers (older than 2 years) can
cause BSOD (“Blue Screen of Death”)!
• Be aware of the SQL problem (follow the TechNote)
• If the Installer does not do anything after a couple
of minutes, the content of the TEMP folder needs to
be deleted (follow the TechNote)
• Windows 7 is the recommended OS for any TZ
software

• Installation from DVD(s):
TZ software will start automatically and launch the Installation Process
when a MapMedia Chart DVD is inserted
If the charts require an Unlock Codes, TZ will ask for it or will use the
one downloaded from the Internet
• Installation from the MM3D External Hard Drive:
Browse the HDD to the correct chart area
Double click on each file(s)
If the charts require an Unlock Codes, TZ will ask for it or will use the
one downloaded from the Internet
• Installation from a downloaded file (Mapmedia Website):
Unzip the file – if downloaded from Internet
Double click on each file(s)
If the charts require an Unlock Codes, TZ will ask for it or will use the
one downloaded from the Internet
Note: the downloaded files can be delete after installation in TZ
MM3D Files
• The MM3D Charts are the same for NN3D, TZtouch
and TimeZero software (Nobeltec or MaxSea)
• A Chart Region is made of multiple files:
– Chart File(s): Raster (“.dbr”) or Vector (“dbv”) file(s)
– 3D file(s): “.dbt” file(s)
– Satellite Photo(s) “.dba” file(s)
• For large areas, you might have to install multiple
chart, 3D and Satellite Photo files
• Refer to the MapMedia Catalog for the latest files

Mapmedia Catalog
Chart Area Example: Area “022”
• The Jeppesen Vector Charts for the East Coast and Bahamas is
made of 4 files:
– 1 * Vector file (the most important!)
– 2 * 3D files (that should be already installed with the included free
NOAA charts – the 3D file are the same for all the charts)
– 1 * Satellite Photo file (optional)
Chart Installation Location
• The chart files are stored in the “ Program Data”
folder:
– Under Vista & 7: C:\ProgramData\Nobeltec TZ\DATA
– Under XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Nobeltec TZ\DATA
• The “DATA” folder can be relocated on another
drive or partition using the “Move My Data” tool
• Do NOT move the “DATA” folder to an external drive
that can be disconnected from the computer!
• Do NOT “mess” with the content of the “DATA”
folder
NavNet 3D/TZT Chart License Sharing
• It is possible to share the “right” to install the same
“for paid” charts on Nobeltec TZ Trident/Catch (with
Furuno Plus Pack) and NavNet 3D/TZT
• Charts must be installed locally on both systems
(NN3D/TZT and Computer)
• The NN3D/TZT System ID and Nobeltec TimeZero
serial number have to be linked (online)
• The chart already available or purchased (later) will
be synchronized and two unlock codes will be
issued (one for NN3D/TZT, one for Nobeltec TZ)
Nobeltec TZ Trident Chart Server
• Nobeltec TimeZero Trident/Catch (with Furuno Plus
Pack) allows NN3D to access the charts from the
computer across the network
• The charts are streamed in real time (no local
storage)
• This remove the Hard Drive limitation of NN3D
• Could be used for Satellite Picture and Raster Charts
(for non-critical data)
• Add redundancy
• The chart server is not available with TZT
Chart Troubleshooting Tips
• Make sure to Unzip the file after downloading the charts
before installing them
• A Chart Unlock Code will ONLY work with the corresponding
Chart Revision (major revision)
– An Unlock Code purchased for chart WVJNAM022MAP2.1 will not
unlock chart WVJNAM022MAP3.1 (different “major” revision)
– The same Unlock Code can be used on WVJNAM022MAP2.1 &
WVJNAM022MAP2.2 (same “minor” revision)
• Use the Mapmedia catalog to retrieve the charts files
corresponding to the Chart Version by “searching “ for the
chart part number
Interconnection
Serial Connections
• If using a USB to Serial adapter, make sure to install the
latest drivers (check the manufacturer website)
• Make sure the Virtual COM Port(s) appear(s) in the
Windows Device Manager (take note of the COM Port
number when possible)
• Use the Port Monitor to make sure the data is flowing
correctly

RS 232 Vs. RS 422
• Be aware of “Protocol Mismatch”!
• RS 232 is usually found on computers and “generic”
USB to Serial Adapters (unless mentioned otherwise)
• RS 422 is mostly used for “professional” NMEA 0183
connections
• RS 232:
– “Single Ended” (unbalanced) connection (max. 50ft)
– Only 3 wires for bi-directional connection: TD, RD, GND (SG)
• RS 422:
– “Differential” (balanced) connection (up to 1000ft)
– Four wires for bi-directional connection:
TD-A (or TD-H), TD-B (or TD-C), RD-A (RD-H), RD-B (RD-C)

Note: In this example, we are only using two wires of the PC output port (RS 232) of
the GPS (TD and SG) because the computer does not need to send back information
to the GP32
Serial Connection Examples: RS 422
Balanced Connection
RS422 sends a positive signal on one wire and its opposite on the other. When the substractor
perform the difference of both wires, the output signal is a square twice the amplitude
Most of the time, a noise (from a VHF for example) affects both line the same way. That noise
is cancelled out by the subtractor on the receiver side.

Configuring NMEA 2000
• TimeZero only “listens” to the NMEA 2000 bus
Sending data (to Pilot for example) will come later
• The Nobeltec NMEA Gateway or Actisense NGT-1 is
required to connect the computer to the NMEA 2000
bus:
– Regular Navigation Data (except AIS & ARPA)
– Fuel Flow and Tank information
• The Gateway is automatically recognized when
performing an Automatic Detection (after installing the
drivers!) or can be manually configured
• Note: Maretron USB100 is only compatible in
NMEA0183 mode
Redundancy
• TimeZero includes a powerful redundancy features
• When multiple sources are detected for a specific
data, you can choose the “primary” sensor to be
used as a “Master”
• In case of failure of the master, the backup sensor
will automatically be selected
• Failsafe is working with any type of input (Network,
NMEA0183, NMEA2000)
Troubleshooting Tips
• Before configuring Serial Connection, have a look to
the Device Manager to make sure the COM ports
are available
• Use the Port Monitor feature of TZ in case of
problem and send us a Log!
• Do not configure Position or Heading coming from
an AIS device as the Primary sensor. In some
instance it is even recommended to uncheck
position and heading coming from an AIS receiver
(too slow)
Connecting to Furuno Ethernet Sensors
• Configure the IP address of the computer to be on the
“Furuno Network”:
– 172.31.x.x / 255.255.0.0 (172.31.3.150)
– Use IPCONFIG or PING for basic troubleshooting
• Ping 172.31.100.254 for NavNet3D
• Ping 172.31.3.6 for FAR2XX7
• Ping 172.31.92.1 for DFF1
• It is recommended to disable the Firewall (or make sure
that TZ is in the exception list)
• Check if the Furuno Radar/Sounder Plus Pack (module)
are unlocked
• Use the Connection Wizard to configure the Ethernet
data (perform an “Automatic Detection”)
Connecting to Furuno FCV1150
• The FCV1150 needs to be in the
“NavNet Mode”
• Power ON while pressing the
[MENU] key then set the “NavNet
Mode” to ON
• The FCV1150 Gain and Mode can be
controlled from TZ or itself
• A setting in the menu allow to
configure this behavior
• The “FCV1150” mode is
recommended for most customers
Connecting to InSight/Koden Radar
• Usually the MDS box will have a fixed IP address
• Configure the IP address of the computer to be on the
same network:
– 192.168.0.x / 255.255.255.0 (192.168.0.100)
– Use IPCONFIG or PING for basic troubleshooting
• Ping 192.168.0.1 for default IP of the MDS box
• It is recommended to disable the Firewall (or make sure
that TZ is in the exception list)
• Launch the Radar Setup Wizard to detect the Radar and
setup the radar initial settings
• Open the TZ software and make sure the InSight Plus
Pack (module) is unlocked
Connecting to the FLIR M-Series
Network Tips & Tricks
• Use the “Alternate IP” configuration if a customer is
using the same laptop for Home/Office and on the Boat
• Use a fix IP address if the computer is dedicated to the
boat
• In case of mixing InSight Radar and DFF1, you have to
configure two IP addresses to the same LAN adapter
(ex: 192.168.0.100 & 172.31.3.150)
• Use “IPCONFIG” and “PING” to troubleshoot the
network
• Advanced users can also use a Network Packet Analyzer
such as “WireShark”
