CLINICAL COORDINATION
CLINICAL ELECTRONIC
DATABASE
The NETS clinical electronic database is the heart of the clinical coordination centre and crucial
component in the delivery of NETS service.
Currently NETS uses a 25 year-old DOS-based database which needs replacing with a more
sophisticated system with links to hospital systems and other improved functionalities.
A new database would:
 Improve efficiency of tasking and transport; resulting in improved patient outcomes.
 Reduce duplication of information entry by referring hospital, NETS, Retrieval team and
Receiving hospital resulting in less error and greater efficiency.
 Provide a more user-friendly database
 Support critical decision-making by providing detailed information about capabilities and
personnel at every hospital as well as comprehensive clinical information (including x-rays).
 Enable teams to enter and access information in transit.
 Allow growth with new technology as it becomes available.
 Report activity to assist improvement in quality of care.
VIDEO CONFERENCING
TERMINAL
Video conferencing is a powerful tool, which provides a virtual meeting environment with a visual
component. Video conferencing will improve NETS communication with other hospitals allowing staff
to visually see a patient, which will help improve the treatment of a baby or child.
With the advancement of technology, training is often done via video conferencing across the world. It
is vital for staff to participate in training and education programs to ensure they are constantly informed
and up to date within their specialised field in order to provide the best of care to our children.

VEHICLES
MERCEDES SPRINTER
AMBULANCE





NETS uses these ambulances to travel to hospitals in and around Sydney to bring intensive care staff
and equipment to the bedside of sick or injured babies and children. They are then transported to a
specialist teaching hospital for continuing care.
Mercedes Benz 315 long wheel based Sprinters is a longer vehicle and can accommodate two of the
NETS life support systems; one loading from the rear like a regular ambulance and the other sideloading. Life support equipment for a baby or infant and an older child can be carried simultaneously.
This capability also permits a NETS team to be diverted from one mission to another without returning
to Base for a change of equipment and also allows the transport of two patients simultaneously (e.g.
twins).

The extra space permits additional staff (e.g. for training or particularly complex cases requiring extra
skills), larger supplies of medical oxygen and medical air and a guarantee that a parent can travel with
their child; if desired.

A global positioning satellite device installed in each NETS Ambulance will allow each vehicle to be
tracked by NETS Clinical Co-ordination Centre.
Data from each ambulance will be transmitted into the NETS data centre at NETS Headquarters,
allowing each ambulance to be tracked in real time and viewed on screen. The location of the
ambulance will be visible at all times showing the route the vehicle is travelling. The information
