The Price of Pain
New Breakthroughs
According to a survey conducted by Johns Hopkins
Bloomberg School of Public Health, 100 million
adults in the U.S. are affected by chronic pain, with
total healthcare costs attributable to chronic pain
estimated as high as $635 billion.
As we are continually working to augment this
already-strong program, we are excited to announce
our latest developments in the evolution of tackling
this important issue:
Broadspire’s Solution: Proven Results
Broadspire’s industry-leading Comprehensive
Pain Management Program delivers demonstrable
results – 72% of the participants enrolled in our
roundtable process showed a significant reduction
(23.6%) in average monthly medical and pharmacy
costs. Highlights of our program include: extensive
networks of functional restoration/interdisciplinary
pain management facilities and cognitive behavioral
therapy (CBT) providers, and urine drug monitoring.
Our Approach
How do we achieve this? Through our proprietary
structured, systematic management process using
evidence-based medicine, we identify potential
candidates, perform an in-depth nurse review
and triage to determine suitability, and employ a
multidisciplinary roundtable of physicians, case
managers and claim professionals to conduct
evaluations. In doing so, we help positively impact
the medical and psychological aspects of chronic
non-malignant pain.
Addiction Network for Supervised Withdrawal
of Opioids
This national network is exclusive to Broadspire,
addressing the fact that various studies indicate
chronic use of opioids does not have long-term
benefits and that only 10% of patients requiring
testing undergo the testing by physicians.
Pharmacogenetics Testing
This advanced approach is now available
as a tool for treating providers to customize
medication treatment strategies based on
an individual’s unique genetic variation
and response to opioid medications. Each
patient’s metabolic type and response
markers are identified and an appropriate,
tailored treatment plan may be put into place,
potentially decreasing medication costs and
speeding recovery.
Comprehensive Pain Management Solutions:
The Pain Management Roundtable Process
72% of the participants that have completed
the program demonstrated a significant
decrease (23.6%) in average monthly
medical and pharmacy costs, 52 of the
participants (32.3%) had their claims closed
following participation.
