Renal veins
Right suprarenal vein: drains into the inferior vena cava
Left suprarenal vein : drains into the left renal vein
Inferior phrenic veins : right drains into the inferior vena
cava, left drains into the left suprarenal or renal vein or
the inferior vena cava
• Right ovarian vein (or testicular vein): drains into the
inferior vena cava
• Left ovarian vein (or testicular vein): drains into the left
renal vein
• plexus pampiniformis / pampiniform plexus : in the
male, a plexus of veins from the testicle and the
epididymis, constituting part of the spermatic cord; in
the female, a plexus of ovarian veins in the broad
ligament

Lumbar veins (4 or 5 on each side) : drain in the inferior vena cava
ascending lumbar vein : an ascending intercepting vein for the lumbar veins of either side; it
begins in the lateral sacral veins and passes up the spine to the first lumbar vertebra, where
by union with the subcostal vein it becomes on the right side the azygos vein, and on the left
side, the hemiazygos vein.
subcutaneous veins of abdomen : the superficial veins of the abdominal wall.
azygos vein : an intercepting trunk for the right intercostal veins as well as a connecting
branch between the superior and inferior venae cavae
hemiazygos vein : an intercepting trunk for the lower left posterior intercostal veins; it drains
into the azygos vein
venae oesophageales drain blood from the esophagus into the hemiazygos and azygos veins,
superior phrenic veins : small veins on the superior surface of the diaphragm that drain into
the azygos and hemiazygos veins
vena subcostalis / subcostal vein
accessory hemiazygos vein : the descending intercepting trunk for the upper, often the fourth
through the eighth, left posterior intercostal veins.
musculophrenic veins : the venae comitantes of the musculophrenic artery, draining blood
from parts of the diaphragm and from the wall of the thorax and abdomen.
anterior and posterior spinal veins : a group of longitudinal veins on the dorsal surface of the
spinal cord; they drain the spinal cord. Positioned next to the dorsal nerve roots.
