Many types of ophthalmic preparations are used to treat eye diseases in
animals, depending upon the eye condition and species of animal. Some
products only contain one ingredient, while others contain several. The
most common products contain one or more antibiotics and/or steroids.
Generic Names of Ingredients
Antibiotics: bacitracin, chloramphenicol, gentamicin sulfate, neomycin
sulfate, polymyxin B, oxytetracycline
Corticosteroids: betamethasone, dexamethasone, flumethasone,
hydrocortisone acetate, isoflupredone acetate, prednisolone acetate
Remember to only use products
specifically labeled for
'ophthalmic use' in the eye; do
NOT use an ear or topical
ointment in the eye.
