DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE The course must start from an introductory part, following the approach of Irving Fang and his view of the history of communication through six revolutions, explaining to students first how breaks out mass communication through the press of the masses (third of these revolutions for Fang) throughout the nineteenth century thanks to liberalism and industrialization among other things. This framework is necessary because students have not received a course in History of Communication. From placing students in context of a nineteenth century which transforms journalism / mass communication into something massive, the agenda leads into the analysis of the history of the various media and / or audiovisual media formats since the late nineteenth century with the advent of cinema and its important role in turning the image into a key informational component already in the midst of mass society. From the study of film will come the study of other media and / or audiovisual aids such as the political poster, radio, entertainment illustrated news and the importance of photography in it, then television and on to today's society. 1 3. SKILLS TO DEVELOP 3.1. General skills Be able to transmit and help the user understand the media reality of the world and of mankind, including its religious foundations. Acquire critical , analytical, synthetic, thoughtful, theoretical and practical thinking skills to be able to understand the reality and transmit it through the media. Acquire the ability to express themselves correctly both orally or in written form in audiovisual or multimedia support. Be able to generate public opinion and build bridges with the different social sectors to enable the development and dissemination of information and culture in the service of mankind, transmitting values based on the search for truth and the common good. Be able to investigate and deepen the communication process and its social impact. 3.2. Specific skills Acquire knowledge of the state of the world and its historical evolution, especially contemporary Spanish society and the understanding of its basic parameters (anthropological, political, economic and cultural). Acquire the ability to express themselves fluently and effectively in Castilian orally and in writing, knowing how to use the linguistic and literary resources that are more suited to the different media. Make presentations and research projects in public or through any media Gain an understanding of the terms of Spanish, European international and contemporary journalistic traditions - as well as of theories, concepts and currents that they study - from the analysis and investigation of the messages transmitted and their social impact. Acquire the ability to analyze texts and specialist documents on any relevant subject and know how to summarize or adapt them in a language or vocabulary comprehensible to mainstream audiences. OBJECTIVES Know how the ideological, political, social, cultural and economic basis impact of each historical period and are influenced by the mass media and its development especially in the last century, as well as fundamental processes in which they occur. All focused to acquire a rational and critical understanding of today's reality in order to enable the student to understand the society and know how to maximize the potential of these means at all times to transmit it in an understandable way to others. 2 7. METHODOLOGY/LEARNING ACTIVITIES For class sessions students will come with a preparation of earlier presentations which will run with the teacher's explanation to contextualize, clarify doubts, stimulating reflections, and thus understand today's reality in the mass media. These sessions will be accompanied periodically by other classes in which class the teacher will bring concrete examples of historical expressions of the basic media of the twentieth century: the press, cinema, radio, billboards, television, etc ... This should generate debate and brainstorming, reflections and / or deductions moderated by the students and guided by the teacher. 9. EVALUATION SYSTEM In this course the final exam is essential as a means of evaluation that is most appropriate, fair and effective when it comes to evaluating large groups, as is the case. Therefore it is required as a prerequisite to pass (5 out of 10) the final test. From there to the final grade shall be taken into account attendance, participation in that they activities proposed to throughout the course and the presentation of voluntary work fine proposed by the teacher, or that start from an initiative of the student or a group of students on a topic on the subject that is of interest. 10.
