2. DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE
The course must start from an introductory part, following the approach of Irving Fang and his view of
the history of communication through six revolutions, explaining to students first how breaks out mass
communication through the press of the masses (third of these revolutions for Fang) throughout the
nineteenth century thanks to liberalism and industrialization among other things. This framework is
necessary because students have not received a course in History of Communication.
From placing students in context of a nineteenth century which transforms journalism / mass
communication into something massive, the agenda leads into the analysis of the history of the
various media and / or audiovisual media formats since the late nineteenth century with the advent of
cinema and its important role in turning the image into a key informational component already in the
midst of mass society. From the study of film will come the study of other media and / or
audiovisual aids such as the political poster, radio, entertainment illustrated news and the importance
of photography in it, then television and on to today's society.
