Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Takes the A Train
with Big Bands and conductor/arranger Matt Catingub
“His sophisticated arrangements were a joy to hear, and he projected an engaging personality. With
Matt Catingub the Pops musicians burned up the stage.” -Cincinnati Enquirer
Some of the most popular jazz and swing music made famous by the big names of big bands will be
performed by the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony (KWS), led by multi-talented musician Matt Catingub at
the Centre In The Square on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 at 8 pm.
This lively concert will celebrate the music of the famous big bands, including selections by Duke
Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Quincy Jones. The program includes timeless
greats like Stompin’ at the Savoy, Take the A Train, Moonlight Serenade, It Had to be You, and tunes
made famous by the likes of Billie Holiday and Rosemary Clooney.
Matt Catingub is generating excitement throughout the entertainment industry for his unique abilities as
a conductor, composer, arranger, instrumentalist, and singer. He has made a specialty of arranging and
orchestrating symphonic shows for major international artists, enabling them to work with orchestras. In
this capacity he has worked with names such as Rosemary Clooney, Diana Krall, Kenny Loggins,
Michael Feinstein, John Pizzarelli, Toto, Michael Mc Donald, and more. Matt has previously held
positions as Pops Conductor of the Honolulu Symphony and Principal Pops Conductor of the New
Mexico Symphony, where he has consistently garnered praise for his innovative pops programming.
KWS audiences were wowed by Matt’s stunning Sinatra show last season and he returns by popular
demand to conduct, play saxophone and sing in this show saluting big bands.
KWS would like to thank the following sponsors for supporting this performance: Season Sponsor: Sun
Life Financial and Pops Series Sponsor: Heffner Lexus.
