jonny lang
Before the music world met Jonny Lang, the Blues were reserved for a few seasoned masters
like B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters. But when Lang, then a 14-year-old kid
from North Dakota, exploded onto the music scene he showed the world that he could play
with the big kids.
With his signature unusually mature voice—that sounds more like a 40-year-old blues veteran
than a teen singer/songwriter—Lang quickly propelled himself from local venues into international acclaim. The world was introduced to the 14-year-old’s profound vocals tempered by
his fine falsetto through his first album, Smokin, that he recorded with the Big Bang. But it
wasn’t until his second album and first solo album, Lie to Me, when Lang’s prodigious guitar
solos and unique sound grabbed the attention of blues legend B.B. King and music critics alike. Platinum record awards, Grammy nominations and star status quickly followed as
Lang’s sophisticated sounds and rich vocals entertained audiences from L.A. to London.
Since his musical debut as a youngster—Lang’s sound has evolved from blues, to soul, to
rock—and maybe even a little toward gospel. And with the pending release of his highly
anticipated album this May tentatively titled, Turn Around, a vibrant mix of blues, rock and
soul—Lang is proving that he has even more music to offer his audience. Though his sounds
may have changed, Lang has ensured his position as the star of this new generation of great
guitar players and promises to entertain audiences for decades to come.

t.s. monk
Sure his old man shaped the world of music, but with new releases like Higher Ground and
his unique repertoire—T.S. Monk is creating a legacy of his own. A drummer, philanthropist,
bandleader, Broadway star, composer and vocalist—Monk got an early start with music when
at age ten Max Roach gave him his first drum set. After shaking up the high school music
scene, He joined his father’s trio and toured with his dad until the elder Monk’s retirement
in 1975.
Since that time Monk has been creating his own legacy while becoming a staple in the jazz
and R&B community. In 1997 Monk made a splash with his tribute recording Monk on
Monk—an award-winning album featuring twenty guest artists including Herbie Hancock,
Wayne Shorter, Arturo Sandoval, Dianne Reeves, Nnenna Freelon, Howard Johnson and many
others.
To further honor his father’s legacy and support the efforts of music education—T.S. Monk
turned his attention toward forming the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. As Chairman,
Thelonious has been at the forefront of helping to create a number of programs that range
supporting after-school athletic programs. The Institute’s activities reach from Boston to Los
Angeles sponsoring music education for students in the form of full-scholarships to funding
and supplies.
