Suggested Repertoire List for Piano Auditions
When considering repertoire for an audition at Armstrong Atlantic State University, the
following list may be used a guideline. Please prepare three contrasting pieces (a
movement of a multi-movement work is sufficient), from three of the five periods on this
list.
Baroque
When considering a multi-movement work such as a suite, any allemande, courante,
sarabande, or gigue is preferred.

any set of Variations

Any character piece or movement from a multi-movement work by a composer from the
era, not limited to the following group:
Mendelssohn, Hensel, C. Schumann, R. Schumann, Albeniz, Brahms, Field, Chopin,
Liszt, Faure, Schubert, Granados, Grieg, MacDowell, Medtner, Rachmaninoff, Nielsen,
Sibelius, Tchaikovsky
Impressionism
Any character piece, waltz, or movement of a multi-movement work by one of the
following composers.
* Ravel
* Debussy
* Griffes
Twentieth Century
Any work or movement from a multi-movement work, not necessarily limited to this list.
Cowell, Copland, Griffes, N. Dello Joio, Auric, Barber, Bartok, A. Benjamin, L.
Bernstein, S. Bernstein, Bolcolm, Britten, Casella, Chavez, Coleridge-Taylor, Dett,
Diamond, Diemer, De Falla, Finney, Hindemith, Schoenburg, Berg, Webern, Gershwin,
Griffes, Ginestera, Hovhaness, Satie, Mompou, Kabalevsky (any sonatina movement
from Op. 13 or any sonata movement), Khatchaturian, Kay, Krenek, Lecuona, Menotti,
Messiaen, Milhaud, Muczynski, Persichetti (sonatinas or Poems), Ponce, Poulenc,
Prokofieff, Rodrigo, Rorem, Schuman, Scriabin, Shchedrin, Shostakovich (three fantastic
dances), Siegmeister (American Kaleidoscope), Starer, I. Stravinsky, A. Tcherepnin, G.
T. Walker, Turina, Villa-Lobos
