“This new way is an autobiographical musical history. Through
performance and spoken word, Halligan’s show will be songs that
have influenced him over 60 years.”
– Nick Reichert, The Post-Standard, Weekender
“Love, Sweat & Tears is like nothing you’ve ever seen. While you
know you’re witnessing a music legend, Dick Halligan’s uncanny
ability to take you through 60 years of his iconic career in an hour
and a half is sheer brilliance. Like watching an old friend, this
performance takes you through every familiar emotion: nostalgia,
youth, success, doubt, love, passion, admiration, humor, fear,
discipline, parenthood, marriage, divorce, wonderment, and
everything – and I do mean everything – in between. This show
deserves to be seen by everyone!”
- Dawn Garcia, ATOD Magazine™
“Dick Halligan’s one-person show takes us on a magical journey in
which he reveals not only triumphs and successes, but also the
deep insecurities, vulnerabilities, and obstacles that he overcame;
all set to clever intermittent use of self-accompaniment on the
piano. A must-not-miss, gut-wrenchingly honest performance by a
talented and successful musician and composer.”

“Love, Sweat & Fears”
A One-Man Show. The Memoirs of Dick Halligan.
A One-Man Show about the journey of a musician. From a child
infatuated with music to a Grammy winner – “Love, Sweat, and Tears” is
an honest look at the internal dialogue of an artist.
Beginning at the age of 6, “Love, Sweat & Fears” travels down the road
of Music Legend, Dick Halligan and his very illuminating moments of fear,
light-heartedness, love, passion, doubt, indecisiveness, and the impact of
embracing – and believing in - your talent, all with humor, insight, and
compassion.
An original member of Blood, Sweat & Tears, Dick Halligan’s history is one
that is rich, colorful, and full of memories. As the the famous arranger of
unforgettable songs like, “Sometimes in Winter,” “And When I Die”, “God
Bless the Child,” and “Variations on a Theme by Eric Satie” and “Lucretia
Macevil”, both of which he received a Grammy nomination for. Dick’s
journey has been one that is exemplified in this performance that
polarizes the plight of every true artist. Having been among the founding
members of a band that dominated the Billboard charts in the early 70s,
won the Grammy’s Album of the Year in 1970, winning over the Beatles’
“Abbey Road”, Halligan has composed, arranged and performed a
wide range of music throughout his accomplished career, including rock,
jazz, film scores and classical.
Named among the top American jazz trombonists, his road hasn’t been
without it’s bumps and bruises. That said, it’s his contagious spirit, “just a
regular guy” mentality, his drive to always be better, discover something
new, and challenge himself while laughing along the way that makes
this One-Man Show utterly unforgettable. His winning solo performance,
“Love, Sweat & Fears” reveals his fascinating and iconic musical
influences and how his relationships, fatherhood, and continual cycle of
doubt managed to illuminate the grit and refreshing honesty that has
taken him through a very rewarding musical career. You will laugh, tear
up, dance, and sing along to this must-see show.
A Traveling Show. For small or large audiences everywhere.
BIO
DICK HALLIGAN
Born Troy, New York, 1943
Grammy Award winning composer/arranger Dick Halligan, founding
member of the award winning jazz/rock ensemble "Blood, Sweat &
Tears", has toured worldwide, performing in such renowned venues
as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, London's Albert Hall, and
Woodstock. For his work with the group he received a Grammy
Award and two nominations, influencing a generation of young jazz
musicians.
Dick's passion for music has been lifelong. As a child, he would sit for
hours listening to his parents' big band records. He landed his first
paying gig at age 13, playing accordion for a church dance in
Glens Falls, New York. He made three dollars! In his teens, he worked
in dance bands with the local music teachers. At 20, he played
trombone in New York City with big band leaders such as Sammy
Kaye, Larry Elgart and Warren Covington, and played piano and
trombone with such musicians as Randy Brecker, Lew Soloff and
Eddie Daniels. He also played in bands backing Sarah Vaughn,
Dinah Washington, Jack Jones, Vic Damone, Julius LaRosa, and
numerous others.
In 1967, Dick completed his Master's degree in music theory and
composition from Manhattan School of Music and was offered a
teaching position in New England. At the same time, he was invited
to join the as yet unknown group, "Blood, Sweat & Tears". After
turning down the offer twice, his resolve was weakened by the
promise of a trip to California at the onset of yet another New York
winter. He has never regretted the decision.
In 1971, Dick left the group to pursue an independent career as a
film composer in Los Angeles. He has enjoyed twenty-five years in
the industry, working extensively as a composer of film, television
and commercial music .
