THE SWAN LAKE TCHAIKOVSKY´S MASTER PIECE ● Music composer: Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky. ● Coreograph: Julius Reisigner. ● Place of the premiere: Bolshoi theatre, Moscow. ● Premiere´s date: 4th March of 1887. ● Original ballet company: Bolshoi Ballet. ● Characters: Odette, Odile, Singnido, Rothbart. BALLET, STORY The story is inspirated in a germany fairy tail. ● ● ● ● 1st ACT: in the 21st birthday ball of Siegfried ( a price), he must to choose a wife. He was pertubated, so he went to hunt with the jester of the court. 2nd ACT: he met a “middle woman, middle swan” in a lake, she was the Swan´s Queen, ODETTE. She explain him that she was bewitch by Von Rotbart (a wizard). The enchant consist in the swan form of Odette, except between midnight and the sunrise, whe she take form of human. The bewitch finish when a price marry her. Sigfrildo tell her that he will marry her and the enchant will broke. He invited her to the ball. 3rd ACT: a very beautyfull woman arrived to the party, she wore a black dress. This girl was ODILE, the black swan (Von Rotbart´s daughter). Sigfrido thought that this girl was Odette, so he fell in love with her. He propose marriage to her and when Odette discover it, she was very sad. 4th ACT: Odette was crying and his friends consolated her. Siegfried understand the situation so he ran to find Odette. He sweared his infinite love and apologise to her. Odette explain him that the forgive don´t matter because she will die. Siegfried challenged Von Rotbart and the price won the battle. The death of the wizard release Odette of the bewitch. MUSIC Tchaikovsky composed The Swan Lake (his first ballet) in one year! (1875 to 1876) The music was sucessfull. Tchaikovsky recived some instructions to make the music but after the composition of the music, the coreographer ordered to change some parts and dances. INSTRUMENTS Swan Lake is scored for the typical late 19th-century large orchestra: ● ● ● ● ● Strings: violins; violas, violoncellos; double basses Woodwinds: piccolo; flutes; oboes; clarinets ; bassoons Brass: French horns ; cornets ;trumpets; trombones (2 tenor, 1 bass); tuba Percussion: timpani; snare drum; cymbals; bass drum; triangle; tambourine; castanets; tam-tam; glockenspiel Other: harp WHAT PEOPLE TOUGHT ABOUT THE BALET? The ballet didn´t have sucess because people think that the dancers,coreography, costumes and decor weren´t good. The public prised the music, they think that was very good. Now is one of the most popular ballet in the world.
