FÜLEI BALÁZS – pianist
Balázs Fülei, Hungarian pianist was born in Kecskemét, Hungary in 1984. He started to learn
music at the age of eight, his interest in music and his performer qualities were already revealed in
early childhood. His first teacher was Mrs Katonáné Szabó Judit. In the Bartók Conservatory,
Budapest, his professors were prof. Gábor Eckhardt and prof. Balázs Réti, then he made his
diploma with honours at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest, 2008 in prof. György
Nádor, prof. Márta Gulyás and prof. Balázs Réti’s class. In 2009-10 he was studying in Tel Aviv
University, The Buchmann-Mehta School of Music with prof. Emanuel Krasovsky.
Significant stations of his national and international carrier were the Great Concert Hall of the
Liszt Academy, the Palace of Arts in Budapest, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Amsterdam
Concertgebouw and in 2008 he had his debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York with a solo
recital. He was invited to several prestigious festivals, like the La Gesse Festival , Festival Radio
France Montpellier, Miami Piano Festival, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Ferruccio Busoni Festival.
Fülei has a wide repertoire, his solo concerts are famous for unique connections within the
programmes. He has nexus with several Hungarian composers, his name is attached to numerous
premieres of contemporary works and radio recordings.
He attended masterclasess and private lessons with Zoltan Kocsis who is recently his doctoral
consultant, Ferenc Rados, György Kurtag, Imre Rohmann, Amadeus Webersinke, Willem Brons,
Florent Boffard, Jeremy Menuhin, Norma Fischer, Boris Berman, Arie Vardi and Detlef Kraus.
He was awarded at a number of national and international competitions: in 2003 he was first
prize winner at the 10th National Piano Competition of the conservatories and the 10th Andor
Földes Piano Competition. In 2005 he was winner of the 43th „Arcangelo Speranza”
International Piano Competititon in Taranto, Italy and then won prizes in Milan, Cagliari and
Moscow. Twice he was selected to be soloist of the New Masters on Tour concert tour by the
International Holland Music Sessions. In 2006 he recorded Chopin and Liszt ballades on DVD
in Tokyo. Recently at the Paisiello Festival in South Italy he played the composer’s piano
concertos on fortepiano. Mr Fülei was invited by several Hungarian orchestras (Hungarian Radio
Symphonic Orchestra, Ernő Dohnányi Symphonic Orchestra, MÁV Symphonic Orchestra,
Szolnok Symphonic Orchestra, Danubia Symphonic Orchestra), the Slovak Philharmonic
Orchestra and played with the orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan Piano Concertos by
Beethoven.
He gave concerts in nearly all Europen countries, in the United States, Japan, China, Israel and
Australia.
In 2010, he was awarded with the Junior Prima Prize, the most prestigious award in Hungary for
young musicians.
