T’was early in the morning when the party guest arrived and all were wearing costumes most intriguingly contrived. The Cat was Cleopatra and the Zebra was a Punk. The Hippo was an Astronaut, complete with all that junk. The Swan came as a Princess and was dressed in purest white. The Crocodile looked like a judge, his hair was curled so tight. The Lion was a dancer from India far away. The Pig looked like an Admiral who has never lost his way. And then there was a pair of twins, sisters, both Giraffes, who turned up dressed as Angels and received a round of laughs. The Mouse came as a Musketeer, his head and hat held high, a swagger in his footsteps and a twinkle in his eye. Eleven o’clock, the time had struck, but they looked in despair. The beautiful banquet that Ellie had made just wasn’t there! The gift of games would pass the time until the lunch was made. They all took part, with happy hearts, enjoying what they played. Kilroy said, “It’ll be all right”, and the mice began to run. When they came back, they had baked a cake to insure the birthday fun. All the animals laughed and cheered and thanked the helpful mice. What could have been an awful day turned out to be quite.
