BLAKE
WORRELL
BIOGRAPHY
Blake Worrell is Blake Worrell! This writer/composer, performer, sound designer uses his cinematic
influences mixed with cartoon like voices to create a dramatic and varied Hip-Hop style.
Originally from Los Angeles, he now lives in Berlin. But it's not that simple. Blake is an only child of
parents who travelled all around the world. He lived in the most secluded areas of Mexico, fishing for
food and collecting rain water, then in Barcelona were he witnessed the city grow into an olympic
metropolis, and then back home in L.A. were he kept a low key in one of the most dangerous ghettos in
California. This 2 meter tall, well built, Brazilian/Italian is anything but low key. Resisting the pressure on
the street, he locked himself indoors with only a keyboard, paper and a pen, and the Blake world was
born. He loved the peace he found indoors in studios.
Not long after, he became one of the youngest employees in the sound department at Roger Corman's
Concorde Productions. He then went on to composing music for what became a cult TV series later
recognized as one of the first to showcase techno music on national televison.
"...Berlin, I am here because it is one of the most peaceful and creative cities in the world." He explains.
He has now been in the German capital for nine years, seven of which he has been a member of the
Electro-Hip-Hop group The PuppetMastaz. Over this period he has played at more than 500 concerts in
various European cities, with nearly half a million fans.
The PuppetMastaz is not the only group he plays with. On several occassions he has been seen
alongside Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop (MPM Rec.), Le Peuple de l'Herbe (Discograph), DubFX (U.K.),
M.A.P. (Pias Recordings), Da Flexiblez (Berlin Massive), Akanni (Mellowbag), Bleubird (Endemik Music),
Subtitle (B.E.A.R. / Briefcase Rockers Ltd.), K-Chico (Festplatten & Rundlauf Musik), ZhiMC (Asian
Trouble Tribe), Citizens Intrnational (C.I.T.), Girls United (Berlin) and Jayrope (Berlin).
He has opened shows for Jeru the Damaja, Paris, Tha Alkaholiks, Lords Of The Underground, The
Beatnuts, Subtitle, Bleubird, Fettes Brot and the PuppetMastaz France tour 2009.
Dishwasher jobs and substance abuse, versus music production for Nike ads and high-profile studio
assistant jobs: the agitation between LA's ghettos and Hollywood's media landscape made Blake a
versatile artist. He works with beats from the more classic hip-hop drenched tracks of Mecstreem
(Berlin), reminiscent of the so-called Golden Era of the 90's as well as the bass raps on Dub-Step-like
pieces from Clintwood (Hamburg). Without any fear of mixing styles, Blake sings with a variety of voices
which bring theatrical tones to the music.
Currently, he is working on his next album, which is expected to release in spring 2010. He also appears
on a show he created for Radio Grenouille in Marseille as BB Bootly Wilson, an oldies DJ recreating the
feeling and atmosphere of the 30s, 40s and 50s with a programme of ragtime jazz, blues and swing.
Coming up is the final tour with The PuppetMastaz, promoting the closing album entitled "The
Breakup". Directly after he will release the long awaited free album "The 2nd Coming", which has
already been dubbed in the streets of Berlin as the "Mec-World/Blake-Streem" album (being that all of
the beats are from Mecstreem and text and production are all by Blake). The year will come to a
successful close as he will be touring with his good friends DJ Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop.
2010 will start with friends, family and colleagues in Los Angeles, writing and re-fining his "Blake it up!"
album which promises to bring something surprising and fresh to the Hip-Hop/RAP community and
Electro/Dub-Step underground.
-Thus, Blake it up!
