PRIMARY RESEARCH & SCIENTIFIC/CLINICAL INTERESTS:
I have a keen interest in Optics and refraction of the eye and all diseases associated within this
field. I am interested in all aspects of Ophthalmology and Medicine that incorporates Physics.
I am particularly interested and intrigued with ‘Presbyopia’ and all the more so when I became a
presbyopic myself.
I have designed a “Xerosis –Meter”, an electronic replacement of Schirmer’s test in ‘Dry-Eye’—
This has been published in the Graefe’s Graefe’s Archives for Clinical and Experimental
Ophthalmology; (DOI 10.1007/s00417- 005-1129-6), Springer Heidelberg, USA.
I have designed and applied for Patient Two innovative concepts of Bi-Focal intra Ocular lens.
(Details in my CV).
I have done studies on the Exceptional Navigation abilities (Natural GPS) in congenitally blind
subjects---I was invited and sponsored by the Canadian Government to present this study and
others in ‘Vision 2008” held in Montreal in July 2008.
I have designed and published a “Calibrated Transilluminator’ and a “Digital Coloured
Mediameter’—inexpensive devices that can give a lot of information about the transparency of
Ocular media. (Details in Publication list).
I still have a huge number of ideas still lying on my drawing board---like the use of Piezo electric
crystal as pressure sensors to record intra ocular pressure, the use of opto- sensors in the eye, the
use of Polaroid glasses to develop bi-refractive materials to design bifocal IOLs, a mechanical
strabismotome—that would be capable to perform a muscle resection/suturing within seconds
and better!! Etc.
I have always been hampered due to the lack of support of a Bio-Medical laboratory and a
devoted engineering team to translate these ideas into instruments/devices. .

Aligarh—Indian j of Public health Vol XXXXIV No 3, July-Sept 2000.
