Mild Hearing Loss (Early Detection is Critical)
Mild hearing loss if not addressed will dramatically and negatively impact a person’s quality of life
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kim Moore,
Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser and
vice president of McDonald Hearing
Aid Center announced today that
McDonald Hearing Aid Center, one of
the largest and oldest hearing aid centers
in Northern California, is leading a
national campaign to inform the public
on the effects of mild hearing loss. This
event will take place Monday, March
12th through Friday, March 16th.
Hearing improvements have
different levels of severity. When
people think of hearing loss, they often
think of deafness or severe hearing
impairment. Though mild loss may
not seem troublesome , any level of
hearing loss can cause difficulty in
communicating. Mild hearing loss
should never be ignored and should be
taken seriously. The key to minimizing
the amount of hearing loss we experience
is to be aware that we are suffering from
a certain amount of hearing loss. The
damage caused by ignoring mild loss
depends upon the age of the sufferer
and the cause of the hearing loss. The
most serious danger of ignoring mild
hearing loss is the possibility that it is a
symptom of a progressive problem.
The severity of hearing loss is
measured in decibels (db) needed to
make a sound loud enough to begin to
be heard. This is graphed on what is
called an audiogram. There are four
levels of hearing loss on the audiogram.
Profound hearing loss is anything over
80 db, severe hearing loss is between
60 and 80 db, moderate hearing loss is
between 26 and 59 db, and mild hearing
loss is between 10 and 25 db. The level
of hearing loss can vary between the
two ears.
Mild hearing loss can affect one
or both ears. If hearing loss affects
only one ear, the hearing loss is called
unilateral. A bilateral hearing loss
is a hearing loss that affects both
ears. A mild hearing loss may be
caused by a blockage of the ear canal
such as earwax or fluid build up
from an ear infection. Hearing loss
from a blockage is called conductive
hearing loss. Sensorineural hearing
loss is caused by damage to the
cochlea or auditory nerve. Noiseinduced sensorineural hearing loss
is an example of a hearing loss that
can be a mild hearing loss. Most
people that experienced noiseinduced hearing loss have a higher
degree of damage to their hearing
in the higher frequencies, which is
perceived by the individual as “I can
hear fine, I just can’t understand the
words clearly.”
In normal face to face
conversation, people with mild
hearing loss do not typically have
difficulty understanding the other
person. However, if the other person
is farther away or if there is any
background noise, the mild hearing
loss interferes with understanding
the conversation.
Having mild
hearing loss can also make it difficult
to pinpoint the location of sounds.
People with mild hearing loss are
inclined to increase the volume of
the television and other electronics.
This can be more of annoyance to
others in the household than the
person with the hearing loss.
People living with mild hearing
loss are at a disadvantage. They easily
blame others for not speaking clearly,
too fast or reducing the volume too
much. They avoid denial of the
hearing loss by avoiding difficult
situations that create problems they
can’t control. It’s usually family and
friends of the sufferer that is very

neighbors receiving better hearing
at McDonald Hearing Aid Center
“ I have a hearing problem just as more than 36 millions
Americans do. I chose to go to the best. And wasn’t
disappointed! After some incredibly precise testing
McDonald’s wonderful staff prescribed 2 Intela-Hear
Alpha Open Fit hearing aids for me. The value was
great..And the results remarkable. Anyone in the same
predicament deserves to hear better. And know what?
Now my family even loves me more. Here are a few
more stories from my friends Tom Sullivan, Grant
Napear, and other satisfied customers from McDonald
Hearing.”

“I have known my friends at McDonald Hearing Aid
Center for years. They created and fit me with that
little tiny earpiece I use on television to get directions
from my producer. It’s so small; you’ve probably never
noticed it. McDonald Hearing Aid Center has spent
years developing the best customized treatments for
each patient. If you think you, or someone you know,
might be experiencing a hearing loss, find out. My

aware of their hearing problem and will
apart pressure even when the sufferer is
not motivated to get help or treatment
for their hearing problem.
Early detection is critical. It is very
important that we do all we can to avoid
any further damage to our ears and
subsequent hearing loss. If mild hearing
loss is ignored it becomes a symptom
of a progressive problem that usually
contributes to auditory deprivation and
can lead to permanently loosing the
ability to understand speech.
The first step to early detection is
if you or you suspect a family member
might be suffering with mild hearing
loss, or having any problems hearing,
you or they will need to have a complete
audiological evaluation performed
at McDonald Hearing Aid Center.
McDonald Hearing Aid Center has
developed many ground breaking
industry treatments to help people hear
better. If an individual is found to
have permanent mild hearing loss, the
treatment is the use of hearing aids.

Hearing aids will:
1) Potentially reverse auditory
deprivation (stopping hearing
loss from progressively getting
worse).
2) Improve their ability to
communicate easier with
family/friends and co-workers
especially when they’re in
background noise or across the
room.
Mild hearing loss if not addressed

Communication occurs in the brain.
• When we lose our ability to hear, the ear stops sending
needed information to the brain, which effects our ability
to understand what is being said. This is called “Auditory
Deprivation.”
• “Auditory Deprivation” may impair the way the brain processes
sound.
• The solution may be hearing aids. Hearing aids may help send the
correct information to the brain and may protect the brain from atrophy.
