Rights Protection Offices About MHMRA of Harris County At MHMRA of Harris County, we know there is hope for people living with mental illness and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We offer this hope daily to the individuals we serve, and we are actively working to reduce the stigma surrounding these conditions. We believe people are so much more than a diagnosis. We believe that everyone is a unique individual full of untapped potential. This is why we work with individuals and their families to create service plans that are specially designed to meet the needs of each person. Our skilled clinicians carefully evaluate individuals by gathering information about diagnoses, symptoms and functioning levels before connecting them with the service or program that will best meet their needs. With more than 1,800 staff, we are proud to deliver personalized care through 40+ programs and services to unserved and underserved populations with a wide range of diagnoses. We provide care and support through three service divisions: Mental Health, Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities, and Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Programs. We serve 15,000 people per month, about 3,600 of whom are children. While we can only count the number of individuals we serve, we know our impact extends to their entire community. Healthy minds, healthy community. About Coffeehouse Do you have trouble relating to your family? Is it difficult for you to make friends? Do you feel like your life would be easier if you just had better social skills? If you answered yes to these questions, and if your doctor has diagnosed you with Asperger’s Disorder or a similar condition, Coffeehouse may be the right program for you. Together, you will work with trained facilitators and a licensed psychologist to discuss a variety of topics and learn skills that will help you relate better to your community. Coffeehouse is a drop-in program divided into two groups. Each group rotates between days of the week so that each individual attends the same amount of class sessions each month. We are flexible. We invite you to attend on days when you’re free, but we understand if you need to take a day or two off. There is no limit for how long you can stay in our program. Stay with us for as many months or years as you need our services. We want you to learn and succeed. At Coffeehouse, our vision for you is that you will understand the characteristics of Asperger’s Syndrome, develop skills to help with social interaction amongst your peers, build self-esteem, and learn to appropriately express your feelings. Our staff is here to help you achieve those goals, and we will provide you an outlet for working on and showing your emotions in the community. Frequently Asked Questions How can I join Coffeehouse?
