Playmakers Youth Theatre announces 2013-2014 season
Beachwood, OH‐‐ The Mandel JCC’s Playmakers Youth Theatre proudly announces its 2013‐2014season which features a dynamic lineup of four popular theatrical and musical productions, all with the common theme of prejudice and tolerance: To Kill A Mockingbird, Fiddler on the Roof, High School Musical and Seussical. The performances will include special pre and post‐show activities, such as “talkbacks” with local educators and professionals and short films which further illustrate the themes of prejudice and tolerance. Playmakers Youth Theatre, under the direction of the Sheri Gross, is a Jewish youth theater program that emphasizes self‐confidence, creativity, teamwork and an appreciation for the performing arts among its young performers. In addition to welcoming children of all levels of talent, Playmakers is an inclusive program that is also accessible and rewarding for all children and youth including those with disabilities or physical limitations. Children in grades 2‐12 of all talents and skills are encouraged to audition for a role. Auditions take place at the Mandel JCC, 26001 S. Woodland Road, Beachwood and performances and rehearsals take place at Fairmount Temple, 23737 Fairmount Blvd., Beachwood. Discussion will be led by local and visiting clergy. November 9 at 7pm November 10 at 2pm and 7pm • Fiddler on the Roof Performances: December 5‐15, 2013 • High School Musical Performances: February 28‐March 9, 2014 Auditions: Open to 2nd‐ 9th graders Sunday, January 5 2nd‐5th graders from 1:00‐3:30 pm 6th‐9th graders from 3:30‐6:00 pm • Seussical Performances:– May 8 through May 18, 2014 Auditions: Open to 8th‐ 12th graders Sunday February 2 at 6:30 pm The Mandel Jewish Community Center of Cleveland builds and strengthens Cleveland’s entire community by providing exceptional programs and services that enhance Jewish continuity and identity in four key program areas: Fitness, Wellness and Recreation, Preschool/Early Childhood Education, Day and Overnight Camps, and Cultural Arts. The Mandel JCC recently completed a transformational $18 million renovation and expansion of its 132,000 square foot Beachwood, Ohio facility. Membership in this non‐profit social service agency is open to all. The Mandel JCC receives funding from The Jewish Federation of Cleveland, grants, donations and other public funding sources and has been serving the greater Cleveland community for 63 years. ###
