This tree is a winner. It’s got a nice size and shape, and
awesome shiny leaves. The flowers are so fresh and bright, and
the fall color is very nice. Even though ‘Cleveland Select’ is an
advancement over Bradford, the grower still needs to be careful
about the angle of lateral branches. On occasion, a branch may
develop very tight to the trunk, it should be removed early on.
Cleveland Select’s head is very dense and it has a tendency to
grow water sprouts into the crown from the lower branches.
It’s best to prune these out. We have it on good authority that
‘Cleveland Select’ and ‘Chanticleer’® are the same tree. We’ve
grown them side by side and seen no difference.
Robinson Nursery offers ‘Cleveland Select’ as bare root whips
and branched trees.
