From the desk of Mike Saletra, MCA President
As 2015 comes to a close, it is sad that we say "Goodbye"" to board members
and our Theatre Director, who have resigned and moved on to new ventures.
Jack Moyers served over ten years on the board as president and vicepresident. He was a great leader and manager of MCA! Also, Jack and
his wife provided the refreshments for the openings of many gallery shows.
We will miss Jack's guidance and love of our organization. Thank you so
much for the time you spent helping our cause.
Vickie Clark was our Gallery Director for over six years. She arranged some
of the best art shows in western Pennsylvania! Vickie also handled Summer
Arts Enrichment Camp., taught classes, managed the Kids' Table at Second
Saturdays, was a Bonner Leader, and many other duties. Her dedication
and promotion of Meadville Council on the Arts and her many long hours
of work went into making what MCA is today! She will be missed greatly,
and she leaves some big shoes to fill.
Susan Luty was our Treasurer for many years and kept finances and
membership up to date. She was also involved in the Summer Concert
Series and the Cootie Harris Jazz Jams. Susan was a dedicated member
and helped out where she could, including the committee for our fundraiser,
the Ladies Tea. She will be missed!
Sadie Whitmore came to the position of Theatre Director about a year ago.
She organized several performances and music venues for MCA. She did
a wonderful job and we regret her moving down south.
And a special welcome to our new board members you see listed on this
page: Rose Baker, Heather Reichel Christopher Peters, Adina Segal and
Jennifer DeMarco Shaw. Board members make good things happen here at
MCA, both hands-on and behind the scenes. We’re already looking forward
to the possibilities in 2016, starting with the Breaking News below!
Breaking News!
The gallery will be closed from December 14th
to February 5th 2016 during a reconfiguration
of the gallery layout. The first event of the
2016 gallery schedule is on Friday, February 5th
from 7-9pm and we will celebrate the grand
re-opening of the gallery with a Mardi-Gras
themed invitational Art and Music Exhibition and Fundraiser. Participants
and guests are encouraged to dress up in Mardi-Gras costumes and join
in the celebration. A variety of local musical talent including jazz, acoustic
and rock will be highlighted during the three day event. Mardi-Grasthemed food and drink will be offered and the Market House Grill will be
featuring Cajun selections on their menu in honor of the event.
Please plan on attending this fun and exciting occasion and help support
and promote Meadville Council on the Arts and all of the talented local
artists and musicians. So, “come one, come all” and enjoy!
Great arts = a great community… check it out!

he lived until moving to
Meadville four years ago.
Lee’s Meadville theatrical experience began
at Allegheny College in the Playshop Theatre and

as managing director. Some of Scandinaro’s favorite
roles have been Barfee in the “25th Annual Putnam
County Spelling Bee”, Jack in “The Importance
of Being Ernest”, and as one of the cast members
of an original devised show entitled “Playing Dirty.”
In addition to performing, Lee is
also interested in devised theatre,
community based theatre, and
writing for the stage. He also loves
improvisation and was a member of
the “Comedy Council” for 3 years.
Lee graduated from Allegheny
College in 2015 with a Bachelor’s
degree in Communication Arts.
He studied theatre at Allegheny
for 4 years and currently works as
the Lake Effect Leaders, Americorps
VISTA, at Meadville Neighborhood

New Acoustic Jam
MCA hosted their first Acoustic Jam
on November 8 and attracted over
30 musicians from all over NW PA.

accordions, mandolins, and
mountain dulcimers along with a
hammered dulcimer, ukulele,
Auto-harp, harmonica, spoons
and bodhran. Participants played
everything from fiddle tunes, to Irish

Tell Your Story, Meadville! A new storytelling series intends
to give Meadville residents a place to share their voice and
an opportunity to explore their creative sides.
Keighley Harr, a sophomore at Allegheny College and the new
Davies Community Service Leader says, “Our hope is to help
build a sense of community in our town through this public and
personal form of art.”
Past themes have included "Homegrown" and "A Lightbulb
Moment." The theme is meant to give participants inspiration
for a story that connects their experiences to the theme in any
way imaginable. The themes can be taken literally,
or thought of in the abstract.
The next event will be on February 5th, and the series will continue
through April. Events take place on First Fridays of each month
at 8 pm in the Meadville Council on the Arts' Gardner
Theatre and are open to the public.
Jazz Jam: There will be a Jazz Jam and Acoustic Jazz Jam
session on February 5 and February 6, 2016 from 7-11 pm.
The regular Cootie Harris Jazz Jam will be held Sunday,
February 7, 2016 from 2-6pm.
Entry for Musicians is free and there is a $5 entry fee for the public.

Tell Your Story,
Meadville! “Music and the
arts are central to my life,
and it is wonderful that
working with the MCA has
allowed these to become a
part of my professional
life as well,” she says.
She enjoys playing the
French horn, knitting,
and drawing, and hopes
to continue these artistic
pursuits for the rest
of her life.
