Unión Tanguera present their latest creation Nuit Blanche
(Sleepless night), co-produced with Lyon’s Maison de la Danse
for the third successive time, following 2005’s Efecto Tango
and Tango Vivo in 2006/08. The opening night is scheduled
for March 2010.
Nuit Blanche is a tangueran exploration about night.
An exposure of its demons, fears, desires, instincts and
fantasies… A club, one night, a crowd: a sleepless night.
A sleepless night to light the night, when alcohol and isolation
bring people together…and tango as the only way to let
the bodies express themselves.
This creation has its roots in the
final image of our previous show
Tango Vivo: on rhythmic and
cyclic background
bandoneon music, a woman and
a man improvise in an almost
pitch black confined area.
The light fades progressively,
the audience guess more than
they see; reality becomes
invisible… As if blindness was
invading the room, disallowing
them to see the ultimate and
intimate gesture.
Out of this intimacy and necessity
arises our new show – truer to
life, more contemporary. Fiercely
sensual - everything is reduced to
radical essentials: the desire to be
embraced, to communicate,
to feel, although all this is almost
invisible…
By using a contemporary, pure
and revised tango, Nuit Blanche
weaves a sensual framework in
and out of “abrazos”, alongside
hatred, desire, loneliness, hope,
despair, friendship, passion,
love, misapprehension,
celebration and defeat.
Nuit Blanche opens on a scene
in a night club at the end of a
traditional tango show - at the
moment when the artists turn
back to human beings blending
with their audience. Back to real
life. The music will be
traditional, using original
recordings, and contemporary
with a new composition which
will place it in a new theatrical
perspective.
Nuit Blanche is the third
creation of the company presented
by the same group of artists
and with an original spatial and
scenic design.
For the conception and writing
of this creation, Union Tanguera
works in collaboration with
the company Modos Vivendi
directed by Rolan Van Löor and
Jorge Crudo.

Nuit Blanche
CIE. uniÓn tanguera
- CREATION 2010 -
Choreographic
and artistic creation
Union Tanguera was born from the
commitment and willpower of Claudia
Codega and Esteban Moreno to develop
Tango of reunion, profoundly real
without clichés, placing it therefore
between the reinterpretation and the
elaboration of a current language.
In our former creations, we started
searching for different elements and
codes belonging to other circles, like
modern dance, the theatre and the
music, with the aim to question and
nourish the narrative limits of Tango.
Cie. Union Tanguera
Following this logical exploration,
Union Tanguera has decided to work in
collaboration with Rolan Van Loor and
Jorge Crudo, directors of Modos Vivendi
Company, in the writing ,choreographic
and artistic creation of Nuit Blanche.
Cie. Modos Vivendi
Pedro Onetto
Scenography
Union Tanguera and Modos Vivendi
share the need to re elaborate a Tango
aesthetics which remaining in the tango
codes pushes them to come out of the
ordinary places and paths already
walked. The necessity of crossing these
experiences is concretized in
Nuit Blanche, exploring tango en its
limiting areas, such as in the musical
level as in the chorographical level.
Union Tanguera Company
Union Tanguera is a French Argentinean
company based in Lyon and Buenos
Aires created and directed by Claudia
Codega and Esteban Moreno.
We are a working group conceived as an
instrument for the creation, broadcast,
chorographical documentation and
choreographic, musical, expressive,
literary formation of the Argentinean
Tango.
We work in the creation and the
production of shows and festivals, as in
the elaboration of a file of the
choreographic tanguero heritage.
We also collaborate as consultants in
the creation, broadcast and promotion
of tango projects.
Our job is placed between the recovery
of the heritage and the elaboration of
a current musical and choreographic
language of the tango, starting off in
the inheritance and the tradition, taking
advantage of every opportunity to push
its limits. Union Tanguera collaborates
with La Maison de la Danse de Lyon,
the Opera of Lyon, the city of Chassieu,
the Lyonnais association Tango De Soie,
Foundation Tango Via de Buenos Aires,
Modos Vivendi Company and the
company TangoScene.

Modos Vivendi Company
Rolan Van Löor and Jorge Crudo, both
Argentinean, are performers with a great
experience in numerous international
companies; Modern dance Ballet of the
Theatre San Martin, Pina Bausch,
Carolyn Carlson, Catherine Barbessou,
Carlotta Sagna, Abou Lagraa,
Paco Decina or Philippe Genty, just
to mention some.
Enriched by these dance experiences
without geographic borders or
stylistics, they decide to join their wish
of a choreographic creation, their artistic
complicity and their common sensitivity,
from which results a sensitive dance,
personal and original, animated by the
love of life and humanity.
In this way, in Paris in 1997, Modos
Vivendi was born, created by Rolan and
Jorge, in charge of the direction.
Many residences have received the
company to accompany and develop
their pedagogic and creation work like
the Theatre Paul Eluard en Bezons,
La Maison de la Musique et Danse
de Nanterre, the Forum Cultelle de
Blanc-Mesnil, el Atelier of Paris Carolyn
Carlson, the CCN of Créteil and the CND
of Paris, among others. They have also
participated in numerous festivals all
over the world.

Dancers
Claudia Codega
and Esteban Moreno
Claudia Codega and Esteban Moreno
have worked together since 1990.
They are part of a generation that has
recovered the tango and that have
accompanied it in its renovation, creating
the conditions for its current popularity.
Inheritors of the greatest Tango Maestros
of the 80s and 90s, between the pure tango
inheritance and search of evolution of this
dance, they have created a style which
has been transformed into a reference
for the new generations of dancers and
teachers of tango.
Their dance unites the essence and the
heritage of the “tango de salon“ with the
evolution and the fantasy of the
“new tango“.Claudia and Esteban
interpret styles in a transversal way,
analyzing the possibilities of movement
and the communication, in the logic of
the improvised tango.
Since 1992, year in which they represented
Argentina in the Universal Exposition
of Sevilla, Claudia and Esteban have
travelled around the world invited to the
most important tango festivals. In 2002
they create, and since then direct, Union
Tanguera. Claudia and Esteban continue
their formative, artistic and pedagogical
work of tango teaching, in workshops
and shows and through a learning
method in a DVD format.
