TGV CINEMAS BRINGS THE IMAX EXPERIENCE® TO MORE
MOVIE-GOERS IN MALAYSIA
TGV Cinemas Multiplex Featuring Malaysia’s Second IMAX Theatre
Now Open at 1 Utama Shopping Mall
PETALING JAYA, March 27 – TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd (TGV Cinemas) officially welcomed the
public to its newly refurbished, state-of-the art multiplex cinema in the 1 Utama Shopping
Mall. As part of the grand opening celebration, the Company, together with IMAX
Corporation, also launched its second IMAX® theatre in Malaysia.
The multiplex boasts a more enticing and welcoming ambience and an additional five
specialty halls to tease and tempt even the most seasoned moviegoer.
“Enjoying a movie - be it with friends, family or even on our own - is no longer seen as a
luxury, but is considered a rudimentary past-time to pamper ourselves. As the country’s
leading exhibitor and multiplex cinema chain operator, we want our patrons to not only go
home with memories of the movie, but most importantly, to rave about their overall
cinematic satisfaction,” said Gerald V. Dibbayawan, Chief Executive Officer of TGV
Cinemas.
Gerald shared that TGV Cinemas’ newly constructed cinema halls are not only bigger but
also more spacious and much more comfortable compared to its predecessor. Collectively,
the 12 halls can now accommodate a total of 1,847 patrons at one given time, as opposed to
only 1,596 in the past.
Representing IMAX Corporation at the celebration was Preetam Daniel, IMAX‘s Director of
Sales for India and South East Asia. “We are delighted to partner with TGV Cinemas to bring

The new IMAX theatre at the 1 Utama Shopping Mall offers moviegoers a truly immersive
cinematic experience, allowing them to enjoy the biggest blockbusters like never before.
IMAX’s cutting-edge projection system, which delivers crystal-clear images, coupled with
IMAX's customised theatre geometry and powerful digital sound system, creates a unique
environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
Gerald further added that the 1 Utama IMAX theatre is just one of the many exciting
initiatives TGV Cinemas has in store for cinema-goers this year. “In the coming months, we
plan to introduce our speciality halls and launch two more IMAX theatres in TGV Tebrau,
Johor and TGV Gurney Paragon, Penang respectively, so stay tuned! Together with IMAX, we
are redefining the cinematic experience for moviegoers throughout Malaysia,” enthused
Gerald.
As part of the event, TGV Cinemas treated guests to a special premier screening of G.I. Joe:
Retaliation, which has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The
IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The film
stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, RZA, Ray
Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson. Directed by Jon M. Chu,
and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is written
by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and is based on Hasbro's G.I. Joe® characters.
