The 2016 Halloween season was officially kicked off Saturday, July 30th with the 10/31 Consortium
Black and Orange Bash at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library on Goodwood Boulevard. The
evening’s festivities included announcements regarding the 2016 Baton Rouge Halloween Parade,
expansion of the celebration into the inaugural Fifolet Halloween Festival as well as the presentation
of awards to outstanding Consortium members and special guests.
6th Annual Baton Rouge Halloween Parade:

Theme: “Candy Wishes and Halloween Dreams” (a play on Lifestyles of the Rich and
Famous)

10/31 Consortium is thrilled to announce that the Baton Rouge Halloween Parade is now the main
event of several other strong anchor events in the new Fifolet* Halloween Festival. The Fifolet
Halloween Festival is a collaborative event, led by 10/31 Consortium, with the Downtown Business
Association, the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, Films at the Manship Theatre, Theatre Baton
Rouge, and many more other local organizations and businesses. This year's preliminary festival
main event line up is as follows:

Friday, October 28 - Live After 5 Halloween Party; Zombie Pub Crawl; Rocky Horror
Picture Show at the Manship Theatre; Rocky Horror Show at Theatre Baton Rouge

Saturday, October 29 - Pumpkin Pi 3.14 Mile Race and Tough Pumpkin Challenge;
Halloween Town on the Levee Green by the USS Kidd; Live at Lunch Halloween Party;
Baton Rouge Halloween Parade and Official After Party; Rocky Horror Picture Show at the
Manship; Rocky Horror Show at Theatre Baton Rouge

Sunday, October 30 – Sunday in the Park Halloween Party; Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre

Kelley Criscoe Stein, the founder of 10/31 Consortium, expressed her joy in seeing her true vision
for the non-profit organization is finally coming to fruition.
Stein shared, “The goal from day one has been to create festivities around the
Halloween Parade positioning Baton Rouge as a major Halloween destination. We are
excited to see our celebration of Community, Courage and Creativity grow!”
The 2016 recipients of the 10/31 Consortium Special Awards are as follows:

Saundra Lane Community Award: Jay’Lyn Chancellor
The Saundra Lane Community Award is meant to honor those who have dedicated their time
and talents to improving the Baton Rouge community.

Corey Tullier Courage Award: Kamden Spies
The Corey Tullier Courage Award is intended to honor those in our area who live a
life with courage of conviction and inspire courage in others by boldly facing
adversity.
·
Dwayne Sanburn Creativity Award: Connie McLeod
The Dwayne Sanburn Creativity Award is for those whose gift of creativity has benefited the
Baton Rouge area.
·
Spirit Award: Deborah Trahan
This award recognizes the member who best embodies the spirit of 10/31 Consortium and is
the club’s “best cheerleader.”
10/31 Consortium is a Baton Rouge, LA based non-profit organization established in July 2010. A
club for Halloween enthusiasts, the 10/31 Consortium hosts several Halloween-themed events
throughout the year, leading up to the organization’s largest events, the Baton Rouge Halloween
Parade and its corresponding ball, the Ghostly Gala. The organization remains dedicated to children
and the preservation of this autumn tradition by raising money for Our Lady of the Lake Children’s
Hospital, collecting food for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, collecting costumes for children in
the Big Buddy Program, as well as working with area neighborhoods to promote safe Trick or Treat
practices.

*Fifolet (fee fo lay) - According to Cajun folklore, a fifolet is a bright light, seen often in
the swamp, gently floating and beckoning all to follow. Some say it is a spirit, which
may or may not be evil, meant to misdirect or disorient those who try to follow it as a
perceived point of safety. Treasure hunters believe a fifolet will lead you to
treasure. Just hide and watch to see if it hovers over a certain place. Come back in the
daylight with a shovel and you may find a treasure. Beware, many have followed the
