NESS H200® Hand Rehabilitation System: Fact Sheet

The NESS H200 Hand Rehabilitation System is an advanced rehabilitation system
designed to use mild functional electrical stimulation (FES) to improve hand function and
promote motor recovery in people whose arm and hand movement is limited by medical
conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury.

Use of the NESS H200 may lead to improved health outcomes, such as:
o Improved voluntary movement
o Increase in active range of motion and hand function
o Reeducation of muscles
o Maintaining or increasing range of motion to help prevent joint tightness
o Prevention or slowing muscle loss
o Increased local blood circulation

The H200 consists of two main components:
o The ergonomic orthosis is designed to place the hand in a functional position to
perform daily activities and complete therapeutic exercises. The orthosis contains
five—custom-placed electrodes that activate both extension and flexion of the
muscles in the hand.
o The control unit features multiple functional and therapeutic operating modes,
including an “open hand” mode and “grasp/release” mode for picking up objects,
as well as training and exercise programs that can be customized by the patient’s
occupational therapist.

The H200 is non-invasive, meaning that it is worn on the body and easily turned on and
off as the patient chooses.

The H200 can be used in an inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation setting as well as in the
home.

The H200 is intended to help those who suffer from disorders of the central nervous
system—not those who suffer from nerve damage such as peripheral neuropathy.

The H200 is endorsed by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
 The H200 is available in more than 350 rehabilitation facilities across the country.
Patients can visit www.Bioness.com to find a nearby facility where the H200 is available.
 A similar device available from Bioness, the NESS L300™ Foot Drop System, uses the
same technology to help those suffering from foot drop deficits as a result of central
nervous system problems.
