Fluorescence diagnosis (FD) is an
impressive method for the delineation
of cutaneous precancerous stages
and tumours such as actinic keratoses,
basal
cell
carcinomas,
squamous cell carcinomas etc. from
the healthy skin.
The FotoFinder dermoscope II FDlens is fixed on your medicam camera instead of the regular micro lens.
Put the photosensitizer on the lesion
and the skin beyond. Mask the treated area with an airtight foil to
intensify the penetration of the
cream. Also cover the area with
aluminium foil to avoid photobleaching of the porphyrin molecules. During the incubation time of the photo
sensitizer, the patient should avoid
exposure to the sun.
Actinic keratosis
This technique helps you to identify,
quantify and characterise target cell
populations for surgery or Photodynamic Therapy (PDT). With a followup image you can prove the efficacy
of the therapy.
Visualization of tumors’ real
extension.
After application of the photosensitizer (e.g. 5-ALA) on the affected
area, porphyrin is induced in tumour
cells. Under the special light the
porphyrins get excited to fluoresce so
that the tumour becomes visible and
can be delineated from the healthy
skin.
By monitoring the fluorescence of the
lesion with the FotoFinder special FDlens, the contrast of the acquired
fluorescence images can be significantly enhanced.
Clinical image
After incubation time of three to five
hours the bandage is removed and
the area is examined immediately.
The porphyrin begins to shine by the
blue light of the FotoFinder dermoscope II FD-lens.
Fluorescence image
The tube around the lens together
with the black kerchief completely
covers the treated area on the skin.
Therefore, you neither need to darken
the room nor to use a Wood’s-light
lamp. Thanks to the FD-lens’s white
and ultraviolet LED lights, an overview and a fluorescence image can
be taken immediately and saved in
the same magnification.
