KOL HALEV “Voice of the Heart” A Reconstructionist Congregation August 2014, Elul 5774 Dear Members and Friends of Kol HaLev, For those of you who joined us for High Holy Days in previous years, we know you enjoyed being active participants in the celebration, rather than just observers. Kol HaLev’s unique service combining the traditional with innovative touches helps us stand out among others. We also embrace a variety of alternative spiritual modalities such as meditation, experiential rituals, chanting, and Yoga, as well as meaningful discussion. This year, due to renovation at the JCC Merfish Center, services will be held at St. John’s Presbyterian Church at 5020 West Bellfort Ave in McPhail Hall. All are welcome. Registration is required by Wednesday, September 17th. Volunteers are needed. This is an opportunity to take part in the joy of creating community together. Rosh Hashanah services begin on Wednesday evening, September 24th and continue on Thursday and Friday, September 25th and 26th. Yom Kippur will be observed on Friday evening, October 3rd and Saturday, October 4th, closing with a light snack. Kol HaLev is pleased to welcome back Cantorial Soloist, Marcia Sterling. Marcia is a long time resident of Houston and a talented professional musician and vocalist who will add the beautiful High Holiday nusach (melodies) to our services. Services will be conducted by Rabbi Alexis Pearce who will lead us in prayer, reflection, interpretation, and creative celebration. Some very exciting news, Kol HaLev has engaged the services of Rabbi Daniel Aronson, a Reconstructionist rabbi who lives in Houston for selected services and other events. We are pleased to welcome Rabbi Daniel Aronson who brings along with him a wealth of experience in serving congregations and as Dean of Admissions and Recruitment at The Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia among other positions he has held in Jewish communities. At this time of Renewal, Rebirth and a Return, we continue our commitment to spiritual growth as exemplified by our name Kol HaLev – (Voice of the Heart).
