Read On (with Rick Riordan) If you love reading and Greek Mythology, you will love Rick Riordan and his Percy Jackson books. Rick Riordan got his inspiration for the Percy Jackson books from his son Haley and as for me I got my books (his books) from the library at Wilson Middle School, which really rocked. Also Riordan’s former students gave him suggestions on his manuscript for “Percy Jackson & the Lightening Thief” and I gave my friends suggestions to read these books. Rick Riordan knows what kids want to read. His books are the best series for anyone because they have romance and also fighting and drama, like girl fights. In “An Interview with Rick”, from Rick Riordan’s website, Riordan says his son is the one who told Riordan to make up characters representing the Gods and Goddesses from Greek Mythology. When his son asked Riordan to tell him a bedtime story, but Riordan didn’t have any more stories, that got him thinking about writing a book. Riordan liked the name Annebeth Chase. His grandfather’s last name was Jackson and he liked the hero Perseus, Son of Zeus (he always had a happier ending than other heroes). Riordan shortened it and he got Percy Jackson. Annebeth Chase and Percy Jackson became the main characters. This series is the best because Riordan always put these characters in dangerous situations where they have to save the world. “Frequently Asked Questions,” another dwelling patch from Rick Riordan’s website says Rick Riordan was a middle school teacher and picked some character names for the book from his students that he taught. For instance, Travis Stoll, Connor Stoll, and Charles Beckendorf are all students whose names made their way into Riordan’s book Awesome, right? Well he only picked some that he really liked and that he taught a lot and worked their best. It wasn’t just random like “Hey I’m going to use you for one of my characters in my book.” Now on to the last and final interview from his website, “Video Interview with Rick Riordan” it says that Riordan used to be an English and Greek mythology teacher. He used to teach 6, 7, and 8th grade in public and private schools. This shows that his books are the best because he knows what students are interested in reading. Mostly they love either romance (not really) or ACTION (the boys) and Riordan’s books got them to enjoy reading more. Rick Riordan wasn’t a big reader until he was 12 or 13 years old. So there’s still time to find a book that interests you. I suggest that middle school kids try Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson books because you might like them if you also like Greek Mythology, action and drama, even if you never liked reading before. Also one of your favorite Greek heroes might be in there (that’s IF you like Greek mythology). I wish that Greek Mythology WAS real but I really think it is but that is my opinion so what’s yours going to be? Your choice.
