Ref. SB-MBU-0815 Date: June 9, 2008 To: Atmel Worldwide Sales, Atmel Representatives and Distributors From: Bjørn Åge Brandal, AVR Product Marketing Manager Phone: +47 72 88 43 88; Email: [email protected] picoPower ATtiny13A replaces ATtiny13 ATtiny13 is now introduced in a new picoPowerTM process technology to further reduce power consumption and optimize manufacturing and performance. This move also prepares for production in foundry and is a part of Atmel®’s announced fab-lite strategy. ATtiny13A is a fit and function equivalent of the ATtiny13. However ATtiny13A offers significantly reduced power consumption in Active and Idle operating mode, as shown in the table below. Mode Active Idle Condition ATtiny13 ATtiny13A Change VCC=1.8V, f=1 MHz 240 µA 190 µA - 20% VCC=5.5V , f=20 MHz 13 mA 8.8 mA - 30% VCC=1.8V, f=1 MHz 220 µA 24 µA - 90% VCC=5.5V , f=20 MHz 4.0 mA 1.7 mA - 60% ATtiny13A has true 1.8V operation, sleeping BOD, Power Reduction Registers, Digital Input Disable Registers, Flash sampling and is using Atmel’s low leakage manufacturing process. These picoPower features give ATtiny13A the same low power consumption known from megaAVR® picoPower devices. The process migration is a change of metal routing rules only. Dimensions and electrical characteristics of the transistors are unchanged. Also the flash, analog peripherals, oscillators and I/O pad structures remains the same. To distinguish these new devices the ordering codes have got the suffix ‘A’. ATtiny13A is only offered in one voltage and speed grade covering both low voltage and full speed operation.. A new datasheet and migration application note for the ATtiny13A is available from Atmel’s web page. The application note AVR520 describes all differences between the devices, and is recommended reading for customers migrating to ATtiny13A. ____________________________________________________________________________ Atmel Corporation • 2325 Orchard Parkway • San Jose • CA 95131 • USA Tel: 1 (408) 441-0311 • Fax: 1 (408) 436-4200 • www.atmel.com Product Availability, Price and Ordering Information The following table shows the relationship between the old ATtiny13 ordering codes and the new ATtiny13A ordering codes. Normal lead times apply for production orders. The old ATtiny13 ordering codes will still be available, but customers should be encouraged to migrate to ATtiny13A. ATtiny13 is not recommended for new designs, but can be quoted at existing price level.
