INAUGURATE THE STRETCH OF ROAD TO THE PORT OF
BUENAVENTURA
Bogota, 5th of February of 2016.- The Vice President of Colombia, Germán Vargas Lleras and the
Secretary of State for Transportation, Natalia Abelló, have inaugurated the first stretch of the road being
built by Sacyr Construcción connecting Cali and Buenaventura.
The 5.6 kilometers of dual carriage highway now operational are part of a 20 kilometer long corridor
with an investment of 103 million euros. This stretch helps to increase road safety and significantly
reduces the driving times between the Port of Buenaventura and Buga.
Vice President Vargas Lleras mentioned that “this is an essential expressway for the national economy,
as a high percentage of products that are imported and exported in the country are carried along this
route”.
The National Highway Institute of Colombia (Invias) awarded this contract to Sacyr Construcción, which
includes the construction of 3.3 kilometers of second lane, the adaptation and rectification of another 20
kilometers of existing carriageway and the construction of four viaducts between 320 and 580 meters
long, and the completion of another 400 meter viaduct, drainage works, support and stabilization works,
installation of signaling and protection barriers; rural, environmental and social management and
maintenance.
The design incorporates routes that improve the condition of the current road, being the main goods
transportation corridor in the country, in order to reduce the costs of vehicular transportation, the
number of accidents and to increase the protection against natural events.
