TUBERCULOSIS
This package is for
clients who have had
cough for more than
two weeks with night
sweat and weight loss.
It is also for the contact
persons of patients who
are on treatment for
pulmonary tuberculosis.
 Vitals check up
including blood
pressure check up,
pulse rate,
respiratory rate and
weight.
 BMI measurement to
assess obesity
 Medical review
 Full haemogram for
blood as a general
blood test which
checks blood levels
and signs of infection.
 Erythrocyte
sedimentation rate is
an indicator of the
level of inflammation
The client can step up
to this package from
the diagnostic one if
they have been
diagnosed with
tuberculosis.

Sometimes the
tuberculosis can spread
throughout the lung
tissue instead of being
localized to one area. In
this case the evaluation
of the client has to
include other tests.

If there is no sign of
improvement after
treatment either clinically
or on the follow up
investigations this package
will be used to culture the
bacteria and find out the
antibiotics that the
infection is responding to.

 Chest X-ray : This
radiological
examination checks
for changes in the
lung that are
indicative of
tuberculosis
 Sputum AAFB : This
investigation is on
the secretions
produced during
coughing. Astain is
used to detect the
bacrteria that causes
tuberculosis in the
client
 Mantoux : In this
investigation a small
amount of the
chemicals from the
bacteria that caused
tuberculosis is
injected
subcutaneously. The
level of the reaction
to the chemical is
indicative of the
client having
tuberculosis.
