MarKen Times Special Edition Technology Update JANUARY 2011 VOLUME 1, ISSUE 1 The Esporta ES-3300 Wash System With over 10 years of research and development, the current Esporta Wash System brings cleaning to a new level. Through a combination of engineering advances and a dedicated research team, the ES -3300 is the pinnacle of washing technology. This patented washing technology is housed in a stainless steel cage and is controlled by microprocessors and a touch screen human/ Mechanical Interface. Its cleaning capacities range from the most delicate garments to the most soil stained items. This is accomplished while avoiding the destructive effects of agitation that usually occur in the traditional washing process. The demands of the restoration industry shaped the form and function of the new ES-3300. The Esporta Washing System was designed to handle whatever was thrown at allowing it to adapt to larger items and increased content. The 6-cartridge peristaltic pump system ensures that the Esporta detergents are released into the wash cycle and follow the exact specifications of the selected wash programs. These pumps, also used in the medical industry, were specifically chosen to ensure that the detergents remain contaminant free. As PPE restoration jobs can cover a wide range of contents of varying shapes, sizes and absorption rates, much care was taken during the engineering process. The current stainless steel reinforced cage allows for dry weight loads of up to 160lbs. This capacity ensures that no job is left by the wayside. cleaning process. The mechanical tumbling action in traditional washers create wear and stress on the garments. The cleaning process itself relies on the surfactant abilities of the detergents to dislodge the soil. This stage contains “good bacteria”, which breaks down protein oils, sweat, fungi and other organic compounds allowing them to be easily removed from the garments. Bacterial food sources are weakened at this point so they can easily be eliminated by the enzymes in latter stages. The development of environmentally safe detergents and processes has been a key objective for Esporta Wash Systems. Together with ZEP, Esporta has focused on providing products that sustain our resources & environment, create zero waste, and utilize renewable energy sources. In June of 2008, Esporta converted all of their detergents to be 100% phosphate free. *The washing ability of the ES3300 leaves all articles residualfree, thus producing a hypoallergenic wash. Stage 1 is an enzyme based detergent produced by nonpathogenic bacteria designed to break down protein oils such as sweat, blood, proteins and fungi. PENTRATOR Detergent (Stage 2) Stage 2 is a synergistic blend of detergents, detergent builders, water-soluble solvents, and optical enhancing brighteners. The detergent builders and buffered alkalinity maintain an optimum pH of 9.5. This stage contains two distinct biodegradable surfactants that reduce water tension and allow the balance of the ingredients in Stage 2 to break down the matter. The pH is maintained at 9.5 while the water -soluble solvents emulsify oils, releasing them from the items. Classic Stage 2 (Penetrator) SIGNATURE Fragrance (Stage 4) Stage 4 implants a fresh odor to the garment. This special formulation is made up of a combination of 140 different natural oil extracts. This fragrance is a special formulation of 140 different natural oil extracts including mint, orange peel and vanilla. The scent is not a masking agent and is entirely optional. We like it because it leaves your soft contents smelling fresh. Classic Stage 4 (SIGNATURE) VOLUME 1, ISSUE 1 Page 3 Patented Washing Technology Caption describing picture or graphic. The ES-3300 Esporta Wash System is based upon Esporta’s patented hydraulic wash technology which utilizes water pressure to remove all of all contaminants. The combination of the neutral pH and low temperature envi- ronment minimizes garment damage, shrinkage and color bleeding. Garments are secured in individual cages and forced through a series of multiple baths of detergent laden water. Water is pushed through the microscopic spaces in the garment, flushing away the dirt, bacteria, mold and other organic and inorganic contaminants. After being washed and rinsed, the garments are subjected to a low "G" force high speed extraction process that removes 85% of the moisture, leaving the garments slightly damp in order to prevent any shrinkage. unique laundering technology cleans and decontaminates fire resistant Personal Protective Equipment without causing deterioration of the fabrics, reducing material reflectivity or damaging hard goods. The same patented process for the restoration of “damaged” goods is used for firefighting equipment, providing an average savings of more than 70 percent over replacement the same items. It has taken esporta nearly 10 years of research to develop the The Esporta Wash System’s optimal proprietary recipe detergents of to help achieve a surgical grade clean*. Esporta Wash Systems Advanced Training and ZEP continue With each installation of an Esporta Wash System ES-3300, certified trainers from Esporta provide on-site, hands-on commissioning. They ensure that each ES3300 is operating efficiently and up to strict industry specifications. During the training sessions, the experienced educators facilitate learning with a combination of hands-on and real-world scenarios emphasizing actual market specific operational procedures. to ensure cleaning develop ever increasing efficiency. *These items show ATP levels of 10 RLU or less. Extreme Oil & Soot Detergent (Pre Wash) Pre-Wash (Extreme Oil & Soot) to innovative detergent design All MarKen PPE Technicians have completed their certification training as ES-3300 operators and are required by Esporta to re -test online once a year to maintain their operational knowledge. The Esporta Extreme Oil & Soot Detergent is a new eco-friendly oil pre-wash which is specifically used as part of our optional Specialized cleaning process for oily, grimy PPE turnout ensembles. This stage is a pre-treatment stage which takes place in the Esporta Wash System before a Routine Cleaning or Advanced Cleaning is performed. It makes use of powerful 'green' solvents Manufacturing coupled with a cutting-edge surfactant package which is designed to release and remove more oily stains associated with food, grime, oils and greases. This report from Caro Environmental Services showed percentage kill values of bacteria, yeast and mold of 99.9997% in both athletic equipment and firefighting protective ensembles. This was the first study that demonstrated that the Esporta Wash System could successfully clean and remove inorganic and organic contaminants. In February of 2004 with the collaboration of Norwest Labs in Edmonton, Esporta completed a study that examined the ability of the Esporta Wash System to kill staphylococcus aureus. The laboratory results determined kill rates between 99.3 to 99.7%. Completed in June of 2004, HydroQual Laboratories Limited and ZEP Manufacturing of Canada, performed an antibacterial efficacy test on a specific Esporta detergent in the Esporta Wash System to properly clean and sanitize. Four bacterial species were chosen to represent a typical bacterial environment: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus (formerly Streptococcus) faecium. The test results showed a minimum of 99.99% kill efficacy for these four types of bacteria after 10 minute exposure at 30°C, thus further confirming the Esporta Wash System’s detergent as a highly effective antibacterial agent for its intended use in the washing of soiled athletic equipment and personal protective equipment. In December of 2004, Du Pont completed a study that tested and successfully proved the effectiveness of the Esporta Wash System at retaining the thermal protective abilities of firefighter protective ensembles. We’re on the web! www.markenent.com Also in December of 2004, 3M Canada completed a study that examined the ability of the Esporta Wash System to clean and decontaminate highly sensitive fabrics such as NOMEX®, INDURA® and 3M SCOTCHLITE® Reflective Material used in the manufacturing of firefighter protective ensembles. In this case study, traditional laundry and cleaning methods caused significant deterioration of both the garment and the reflectivity levels of the trim. The laboratory results demonstrated the Esporta Wash System’s effectiveness in laundering ensembles, killing bacteria, removing contaminants and retaining optimal brightness while minimizing the impact on thermal protection, colorfastness and wear life. In 2007, a study, conducted by WonderMakers Environmental determined that the Esporta Wash System was capable of removing bacterial contamination from sewage-contaminated soft goods. As result of this study, the Esporta Wash System has now set the industry standard for the restoration of previously unrecoverable water and sewage contaminated items. In May 2007, Dr. Jeffrey O. Stull of International Personnel Protection, Inc. in conjunction with the University of Alberta conducted a study to compare Esporta Wash System's laundering processes to that of traditional washing technology in terms of soiling removal, chemical contaminant removal, and effects on key firefighter protective ensemble properties. The results verified the Esporta Wash System’s superior ability to clean fabrics contaminated with carbon monoxide, inorganic gases, acid gases, aldehydes, polynuclear aromatic compounds and metals, chlorinated compounds and hydrocarbons. It also demonstrated the Esporta Wash System's ability to successfully remove both organic and inorganic contaminants. Follow MarKen on any of our social media sites below. Bullard Company recently completed a study that tested the effectiveness of the Esporta Wash System at cleaning firefighter protective helmets. The laboratory tests indicated that Bullard Fire Helmets washed in the Esporta Wash System do not show any degradation from their original specification and meet all the requirements of the NFPA 1971- 2007 Edition guidelines. Not only does it remove all odors, it removes all risk of infection, without damaging specialty items! *All of these studies can be found at www.esporta.ca* MarKen is proud to be a certified member of the Esporta© Wash System network.
