Lax Out Cancer is fundraiser that raises money for children who are battling cancer. It is run completely by volunteers. All proceeds are divided among the recipients. Last year we raised over $54, 000 dollars and helped four local families with children who were battling cancer: Harrison, Zachery, Kaitlyn, and Sean. All proceeds will go to the children. This year we are hoping to help at least four children and their families feel the strength, love, and support of our wonderful community. Lax Out Cancer Event: Lax Out Cancer is an event. However, prior to the day of the event, volunteers are soliciting local businesses and reaching out to family and friends, inviting them to make donations. This year both JV and varsity SWR boy’s lacrosse team will play Miller Place. SWR will also be hosting a Patchogue-‐Medford vs. Bayport-‐Blue point varsity game, as well as an SWR vs. Comsewogue girl’s varsity game. Crowds will be drawn from these communities, as well as other North Shore communities in the way of family members, friends, businesses, vendors, various sports teams and media. We are expecting MSG Varsity coverage and possible News 12 and Newsday coverage. We are hoping to have the Long Island Lizards to come again, as well as local radio stations (WALK has come the last few years.) We have a Facebook page and we are being followed on Twitter. This is our 8th year… people know us now! Alumni come. Strangers come. All are wearing pink and ready to buy T shirts, or a hot dog at our concession. All are smiling and deciding which raffle basket they would like to drop their tickets in with hopes of winning. The little ones are enjoying the bounce house, while the adolescents are checking out the lacrosse gear being shown off by Port Jeff Sports and other sports vendors. All are proud and honored to be there, supporting a great cause. Looking Back: As we are in our eighth year, we are blessed to have a loyal group of supporters and followers. From Garden City to Mt. Sinai, and now to Miller Place, our supporters are far-‐reaching and passionate about the cause. Even more so, our span of support is diverse and growing every year. We are so thankful to have received support form large companies and organizations such as St. Charles Hospital, sPower, Dicks, Models, Peconic Bay Medical Center, and Suffolk County Police Conference. We have support from many local restaurants, landscaping businesses, and dental offices. Naturally, we have enormous support from the ENTIRE lacrosse community, from youth travel teams to college level involvement. Looking Ahead: We hope that Lax Out Cancer will continue to grow as it has each year. We are so proud that our communities have come together for this worthy cause. It is life changing to witness first hand the difference you can make in a struggling family’s life. This year we hope you join us in
our efforts to help these children and their families. It is a privilege to come together for this
endeavor.
