Sponsorship Benefits & Take Out Lung Cancer Benefits CHARLOTTE HAPPY HOUR TO STOP LUNG CANCER Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Charlotte, NC Saturday, April 11, 2015 LUNGevity.org/charlotte F O R M O R E I N F O R M AT I O N , C O N TAC T : Jen Edwards [email protected] 704-589-4144 About this event Breathe Deep Charlotte is a grassroots event brought together by an incredible group of passionate local volunteers, each of whom has been profoundly impacted by lung cancer. Lauren Lapoint’s grandfather, George, is the living embodiment of the promise of early detection, who, after losing a whole lung to the disease, is still going strong 50 years after his diagnosis. Jen Edwards lost her brother, Billy Potts, to lung cancer in August, 2014, when he was 48 years old. Julie O’Shea Logsdon lost her childhood best friend, Audrey Murphy in March, 2014, when Audrey was 32 years old. Anne Graves’s brother, Mike, died in May, 2014, at the age of 51. These amazing women are bringing together the Charlotte community to support this critical cause, one that has affected their loved ones so deeply. With your support and participation, these local heroes hope to help other families avoid the losses that have devastated theirs. 100% of the proceeds benefit LUNGevity Foundation. About LUNGevity Foundation LUNGevity supports the largest research awards program of any lung cancer-focused organization in the U.S. Since 2002, LUNGevity-funded scientific research projects have totaled more than $19 million. This represents an investment in 110 projects at 57 institutions in 23 states. Our Scientific Advisory Board of leading researchers and clinicians guides our funding of promising and innovative research into the early detection and targeted treatment of lung cancer. LUNGevity also provides a community and resources for those impacted by the disease, through peer-based support, medically expert information, and the largest national network of grassroots events. Did you know? One in fourteen Americans will receive a diagnosis of lung cancer during their lifetime • About 60% of all new lung cancer diagnoses are among people who have never smoked or are former smokers • Each gender accounts for about half of lung cancer diagnoses • More Americans die of lung cancer than of colorectal, breast, and pancreatic, cancers combined • Because there is no widely available, effective early diagnostic test for lung cancer, only 15% of people will be diagnosed in the earliest, often symptomless stage • When lung cancer is detected early, patients have more treatment options and better outcomes Lung cancer statistics from the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Facts & Figures 2014, National Cancer Institute SEER data 2012, and National Lung Cancer Partnership 2013 Lung cancer takes more lives annually in the U.S. than the next top three cancers combined 50,310 40,430 39,590 159,260 Colorectal Breast Pancreatic For more information, contact Jen Edwards at [email protected] or 704-589-4144 2 Why Sponsor?
