CONTACT: Pia Schreiber-Gerlach, Unternehmenskommunikation, [email protected] Maren Schulz, Etatdirektorin, WEFRA PR, [email protected] Quintiles supports Leukemia Research Foundation Charity goes to Mannheim Initiative for Kids with Cancer Mannheim, Dezember 2010 – Already fort he fifth time the Mannheim subsidiary of Quintiles, one of the globally leading service companies offering marketing and sales solutions to the healthcare industry, donates tot he German Leukemia Research Foundation. With the sum of 4.500 Euro the Initiative for Kids with Cancer in Mannheim is supported. The amount consists of a local means and a contribution by the international organisation. The employees have contributed to the charity amount as well. On QDay they organized a garbage collection in the nearby forest. „The weight of the garbage collected was converted into Euro and added to the normally budgeted charity amount. Thus we have a twofold social effect: we do something for nature and our yearly charity is bigger than originally planned”, Monika Beintner describes, Managing Director of Quintiles in Mannheim. But not only in Germany QDay is practiced as a regular event – all around the world Quintiles employees have a chance to do good work for their communities. In all Quintiles subsidiaries the company offers an additional day off to engage in social activities. QDay, however, is by far not the only social engagement of the global company. The company headquarter in Raleigh, North Carolina supports a number of social institutions such as the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross or the Alzheimer‘s Association. Following the New Health credo „Patients first and foremost“ the social activities of Quintiles concentrate on Health and Fitness; education in natural sciences and Women in Science are another focus of attention. In the frame of these initiatives and supported by a contribution “from International” in the context of the relaunch at the beginning of the year the Mannheim company supports a very special institution: since five years the charity goes to the Mannheim group of the German Leukemia Foundation – Initiative for Kids with Cancer. “We look back to a successful year 2010 and want to give some of it to others“, underlines the Managing Director. “With the Initiative for Kids with Cancer we help an institution that does admirable work. “ The objective of the initiative founded in 1979 is to help the families of the kids that fight with cancer. The families receive adequate counseling talored to their special situation and they can apply for financial help. In addition the initiative helps the paediatric clinic in Mannheim in their efforts to improve their personnel, financial and technical resources and supports research in child cancer. Quintiles Commercial Germany GmbH Schildkrötstraße 17-19 D-68199 Mannheim www.quintiles.com Thanks to medical progress leukemia in children is nowadays curable to more than 80%. “Getting back into a normal life, however, is the next challenge for the kids“, says Martin Stachniss, president of the Mannheim initiative. With the new project “Ü18” the group tries to improve exactly that: “Young adults that were confronted with cancer in their youth have a difficult time leading a normal life“, Stachniss knows. Even after having successfully won the fight against the disease they have to deal with the consequences. “Above all finding a job turns out to be extremely difficult in many cases. We give these young adults a chance to come back together, exchange their experiences and learn from each other.“ says Stachniss. The Initiative welcomes every contribution to their account at Sparkasse Rhein-Neckar-Nord (BLZ 670 505 05), Konto Nr. 3800 3801.
