Nutrition and Food Web Sites
Nutrition and food nutrients play a role in how your body responds to
treatment. Registered Dietitians at The Ohio State University Wexner
Medical Center have looked at these websites for nutrition information.
As internet information is not regulated, carefully review the information
with your doctor or health care team to find out what is best for you.
If you do not have a computer, use one at your local library. You may
also use a computer in the Library for Health Information located on the
main campus of Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center on the 5th floor of
the hospital. You may also contact the library by phone at (614) 293-3707
or by email at [email protected] to ask questions.
Finding Information on the Internet
It is important to use caution when looking up health information on the
internet. Make sure the information is from a reliable and up-to-date
source. The internet should be used for information purposes only.
Always discuss any information you find on the internet with your
doctor.
Below are guidelines you can use to evaluate the information you find:
•
Authority
Who is providing the information? What are their qualifications? Look for an “About us” or an “About this site” section for answers to these questions.
•
Bias
Is the information based on fact or is it an opinion? Is the website trying to sell something?
This handout is for informational purposes only. Talk with your doctor or health care
team if you have any questions about your care.

•
Current Information
Is the information current? Look on the website to find when it was
last updated and if the links have current information.
•
Content
Does the information make sense? Is it complete? Do the content,
links and resources appear to be good?
Health Literacy and the Internet
Health literacy is the ability to read information and use it to make decisions
about your health care. It is different from your ability to read. Learning about
nutrition may be new to you and some websites may give information more
clearly than others. Look at several websites to find the information that is the
most helpful for your needs.
