Pet Food Ingredient SI-01005-EN Petzyme™ Introduction Recently, probiotic ingredients become more and more popular in not only human health products but also animal food products. In human health products, probiotic ingredients play important role in maintaining balanced and healthy micro flora in gastric intestinal tract. In animal health products or pet food products, besides the benefit to balance micro flora, these ingredients can also help promote digestion with the high enzyme activity. Moreover, it can bring benefits to pet owners because it can help reduce bad fecal odors of pets. Benefits of Petzyme™ Providing nutrients PetzymeTM contains various probiotics and those microorganisms may produce vitamin K2, which is beneficial for the aged pet animals in bone health. Also, with the propagation of Bacillus subtilis, the folic acid is generated and retained. Other nutrients are also generated, such as amino acids and peptides. These substances sustain good metabolism of animals and work as nutrients for microflora at the same time. Balancing microflora PetzymeTM contains Bacillus subtilis and several strains of lactic acid bacteria which help eliminate harmful bacteria such as Escherichia sp., Shigella sp., and Salmonella. The produced lysozyme and dipicolinic acid are also helpful in eliminating the harmful bacteria. Promoting better digestion Various enzymes are derived from fermentation of Bacillus subtilis and Aspergillus oryzae. The multi-enzymes hydrolyze beta-glucan, hemicellulose, and proteins of the feed; therefore, better digestion is promoted. Promoting immune system PetzymeTM is generated from fermented soybean, containing isoflavones and other free-radical scavengers. These substances can help activate super oxide dismutase (SOD), and hence, improve the immune system and prevent aging. Reducing Fecal odors of pets The microbes in PetzymeTM are Generally Recognized As Safe by the US FDA and the AAFCO (American Association of Feed Control Officials), and are designed to inhibit the growth of skatole, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide forming bacteria including Salmonella spp. and Clostridium spp. in the digestive tract. As a result, the fecal odors of pets are reduced. Safety and regulatory status of PetzymeTM The bacteria used for producing PetzymeTM are Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis, and lactic acid bacteria. Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus licheniformis, and the lactic acid bacteria are GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) by US FDA and the AAFCO (American Association of Feed Control Officials).
