in 2015 under supervision of Professor Michael Breadmore and Dr. Rosanne
Guijt. Thescholarship was funded by the Egyptian government and her project
focused on developing point-of-care devices for therapeutic drug monitoring
that are portable and cost effective.Dr. Shallan’s research on the size/mobility
traps (SMTs) was featured on the inside cover of AngewandteChemie
International Edition 2015, 54 (25), and protected by International Patent
Application No. PCT/AU2015/050589. Her work on 3D-printing integrated
microfluidic devices was published in Analytical Chemistry 2014, 86 (6),
3124–3130 (more than 80 citations) and featured in C&EN. The outcomes are
expected to improve the quality of life for many patients and empower health
care providers with information that facilitate making timely decisions.
Dr. Shallan research interests include analytical techniques for biological
sample handling, microfluidics, sample-in/answer-out devices, and fast
prototyping. Communicating science to the public is one of her passions.
