LearnSomething and NACDS Foundation Collaborate to Help Prevent

Tallahassee, FL (January 5, 2007) – LearnSomething, Inc., the leading provider of e-learning
solutions for the retail pharmacy, food and healthcare industries, today announced the release
of a new training program entitled Preventing Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA). The program
is designed to help community pharmacies, healthcare and insurance companies, and grocery
chains with pharmacy’s, to educate their employees to detect and prevent fraud, waste and
abuse (FWA) in government health care programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid. FWA can
be a significant source of liability for unwary retail chains and other company’s who process
plan claims, arising from unintentional or careless errors.
LearnSomething and The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation
have jointly developed the program.
The course content was drafted by Don Bell, General Counsel, and Mary Ellen Kleiman,
Associate General Counsel, both of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. They were
assisted by contributing course reviewers:
-
NACDS Fraud, Waste and Abuse Workgroup
NHCAA – National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association
Gorman Health Group, LLC
John Bettac, Supervisory Special Agent, HHS OIG Office of Investigations
Sharon L.G. Donnelly, AHFI, CFE, Senior Manager, Corporate Compliance, Blue
Cross/Blue Shield of Florida
Donna Hoffman, Senior Manager, Corporate Compliance, Health Care Service

This new training program will provide community pharmacy and others with a valuable and
thoroughly vetted anti-FWA training solution. The program has been designed to instruct
employees on company policies and procedures intended to ensure compliance with FWA laws
and regulations.
After receiving this training, it is expected that employees should be able to:
-
Understand obligations for identifying FWA
-
Identify, prevent, and report FWA
Recognize the penalties for violating FWA laws and guidelines
Understand protections afforded employees when reporting suspected FWA
“This training program can help pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and others detect and
prevent fraud and abuse problems before they result in government investigations and fines,”
said Don Bell, General Counsel for NACDS. “The program is specifically tailored to help
community pharmacy employees address new recommendations issued by CMS, as well as
new fraud and abuse requirements that are being added to pharmacy network contracts by
Medicare plans.”
The on-line training program is designed to be flexible enough to meet the specific training
needs of individual companies. The program can be customized to include each individual
company’s policies and procedures.
The program can be branded to fit within the look and feel of a company’s own training
programs, including company logos and customized introductions.
One hour of Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) credit is available to individuals who
successfully complete the more comprehensive “Specialized” version of the training.
