Control the power – transfer the genes
BTX New Electro Cell Manipulator – the perfect tool for
fusion, nuclear transfer and electroporation applications
Cell fusion
BTX/Harvard Apparatus, a leader in
electroporation and electrofusion instruments
and accessories, offers the ECM 2001 Electro
Cell Manipulator (ETL and CE marked). This
instrument is a safe, user-friendly tool for gene
transfer, nuclear transfer and cell fusion of a
variety of plant, animal and bacterial cells.
• AC feature aligns cells and
maintains cell membrane
compression
• Begin fusion cell and membranes
using the DC square wave pulse
• Cell fusion complete!
The advanced functions of the ECM2001 are
ideal for in vivo and in vitro experiments
resulting in hybridomas, transfected cancer
cells, and engineered embryonic stem cells
(ESC), and for in vivo drug delivery and
experimental cancer therapy. Nuclear transfer
applications until now resulted in low efficiency
and low viability. The novel technique
employing electrofusion to nuclear-transfer
complexes improves both efficiency and
viability. In short oocyte-cell couplets are
aligned in a BTX fusion chamber by applying AC

pulse. The fusion of the couplets is
accomplished by applying two DC pulses, and a
post-fusion AC pulse.
A variety of electrodes incorporated in cuvettes
and microslides are available for single cell
experimentation, and genetrodes,
tweezertrodes and genepaddles for in vivo tests
on tissues and organs. The instrument’s CE
mark and ETL mark allows it to be a truly global
instrument applicable for experimental work
around the world. The superior design carries a
two year warranty from the day of purchase.
BTX’s global technical support team will assist
scientists worldwide to optimise their
applications and choose the best accessories
for their applications.
