International Specialty Products (ISP)
is a premier specialty chemical company,
operating in more than 50 locations
worldwide with manufacturing facilities,
research laboratories, and sales and technical
service offices. ISP produces a wide variety
of products that have a broad range of
applications in pharmaceuticals, food and
beverage, oral care, personal care,
agrochemicals, industrial coatings, household
and industrial markets.
For over 50 years, ISP has been a leading
supplier of high quality pharmaceutical
excipients that have been used to enhance the
performance of thousands of pharmaceutical
products. Fields of applications for our
excipients include oral solids and liquids,
parenterals, topicals, ophthalmics and
bioadhesives. Today, ISP produces more
than 30 ingredients for use in pharmaceutical
formulations, including Plasdone® highperformance binders and solubilizers and
Polyplasdone® super disintegrants for solid
dosage forms, including orally disintegrating
tablets (ODT).
Major Products:
• Plasdone® binders and solubilizers
• Polyplasdone® disintegrants
• Pharmasolve® solubilizer
• CAVAMAX® cyclodextrins
• Advantia™ Coating Systems
Providing Rapid Tablet Disintegration
ISP has recently published new technical
information on Polyplasdone® disintegrants
in ODT and chewable tablet formulations. In
order to achieve quick disintegration
properties, higher levels of disintegrant are
required in these types of formulations, thus
the selection of proper disintegrant to achieve
good mouth feel, quick disintegration and
hard tablets is critical. Polyplasdone® XL-10 is
the super disintegrant of choice for directly
compressible ODT formulations as it rapidly
swells to dissolve the tablet in the mouth
without gelling. Thus, providing a pleasant
mouth feel. In addition, it is a highly
compressible material that provides hard,
non-friable tablets. Harder, less friable tablets
are important as they do not require
expensive packaging to maintain tablet
integrity.
Advancing the Science of Coatings
ISP recently introduced Advantia™ Prime
tablet film coatings and Advantia™
Performance enteric tablet coatings.
Advantia™ Coating systems have been
scientifically researched and developed using
a design of experiments that allows ISP to
provide custom formulations to meet the
most critical tablet coating requirements.
ISP’s Advantia™ Coating Systems capitalize
on our experience as a leading manufacturer
of high quality excipients, knowledge of tablet
core formulations and our extensive
background in polymer and material sciences.
Providing Global Technical Support
ISP has dedicated technical service centers on
four continents – all established to provide
the highest standard of service to our
customers. Our pharmaceutical scientists
around the world provide customers with
comprehensive pharmaceutical technical
services along every step of the development
process. ISP scientists can develop stable
formulations, conduct studies and testing, and
assist customers through their scale-up and
commercialization. Our core capabilities
include direct compression, wet and dry
granulation, tablet disintegration, coating
development and application, and forming
inclusion complexes with cyclodextrin for
solubility enhancement and taste masking
Improving Bioavailability
With the addition of ISP Pharmaceutical
Technologies, ISP helps pharmaceutical
customers formulate, scale-up and
commercialize drugs with enhanced solubility.
ISP offers novel process capabilities to form
solid dispersions of drug actives through
spray drying that can result in a 5 to 50-fold
increase in bioavailability. The ISP team
works closely with customers throughout the
drug development process, including
feasibility studies, formulation/process
development, scale-up to cGMP commercial
production to enhance drug performance.
Offering Custom Manufacturing
Capabilities
In addition to our excipient products, ISP
Fine Chemicals can provide custom
manufacturing service of key starting
materials, intermediates and active
pharmaceutical ingredients.
