Women Who Have Sex with Women and HIV Prevention Community Consultation Series Forum presented by Harm Reduction Coalition May 14, 2010 2:00 - 3:30 pm Moderator and Panelist Biographies Moderator: Alicia Heath-Toby’s work focuses on the intersection of sexuality, spirituality, structural co-factors, and health disparities in the LGBTIQ and gender nonconforming community. Alicia has been the program coordinator of the Lesbian AIDS Project (LAP) at Gay Men's Health Crisis for the last six years. At LAP, she facilitates didactic community discussions and trainings, both locally and nationally, on HIV and AIDS, sexuality, and spirituality, specific to gay and lesbian youth. Panelists: Naomi Braine is a sociologist and long time harm reduction activist. She did street-level needle exchange through the 1990s and since then has published research on drug use and HIV in a wide range of public health journals. She has been writing about queers and harm reduction since 1993. Panelists (continued): Jennifer Lorvick has over 20 years experience conducting community-based research with urban poor populations, focusing primarily on HIV infection and risk among drug users. Most recently, she directed a study of HIV and sexually transmitted infections among women who use methamphetamine. Her work integrates quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Jennifer is the Associate Director of the Urban Health Program at RTI international. In addition to her work, she is currently completing a Doctorate in Public Health at UC Berkeley. Darlene Jenkins holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the Audrey Cohen School for Human Services and Education at Metropolitan College. She has been employed in the field of Human Services for 15 years. She worked with HIV-positive individuals and their families providing access to care, custody planning, and harm reduction services at Health People (formerly Health Force: Men and Women Against AIDS). She currently serves as a Coordinator at New York Harm Reduction Educator’s Inc, where she has been employed for over 5 years. She has built knowledge of WSW culture through both personal and professional experience. Jae Quinlan is a former Prevention Case Manager from a faith based community organization, with particular focus on interventions that specifically targeted African American women. Currently, she is Program Coordinator of the True Colors Drop In-Center, a safe space at Liberation In Truth Social Justice Center for LGBT youth and young adults in downtown Newark, New Jersey. She is an accomplished abstract artist consistently looking for ways to incorporate arts and healing into workable mediums of transformation for the community.
