Raiffeisen entered the Romanian market in 1998 by founding Raiffeisen Bank S.A., which was merged
with Banca Agricola S.A. in 2002. Raiffeisen Bank managed to deeply anchor in the Romanian market, by
providing comprehensive range of high-quality financial services and products to almost 1,974,315 customers, including nearly 105,000 SMEs and 7,500 corporate clients. The Bank’s outlet network covers the entire
territory of Romania, all the 525 branches being located exclusively in the urban area. The number of the
employees at the end of 2012 was 5,486. In spite of the difficult economic conditions, the bank has posted
a very good result, due to the good quality of the loan portfolio, a stable provisioning, and the bank’s solid
market capitalization. At the end of 2012, Raiffeisen Bank was the most profitable bank in Romania, posting a profit after tax of EUR 86 million. Last year, Raiffeisen Bank focused on its house bank functions for its
customers in all business areas, while keeping a tight grip on costs and risks. The bank's total assets amounted
to EUR 5,982 million, while loans to customers remained stable at EUR 4,226 million. On the whole, the bank
was able to maintain its loan portfolio despite the restrictive market conditions. The loan/deposit ratio slightly
increased to 92 per cent (89 per cent in 2011). 2012 marked an improvement in the bank’s efficiency (costs
dropped by 8 per cent), through efforts invested in streamlining processes and activities, at the same time further
improving customer care standards. Following the bank’s measures to increase efficiency and diversify its income sources, the cost/income ratio improved to 59 per cent. Besides banking business, Raiffeisen in Romania
is one of the leading providers in the areas of asset management and leasing.
