PPU
Application
The PPU generator controller is a microprocessorbased control unit containing all necessary functions for
control of a synchronous generator. The PPU can
synchronise the generator and after synchronisation
carry out all necessary generator control and protective
functions.
The PPU contains all necessary 3-phase measuring
circuits and presents all values and alarms on the LC
display. Programming is easily done via a menu
structure in the display (password protected) or via the
RS232 PC connection and the multi-line 2 Windows®
based service software. The service software offers
additional features such as monitoring of all relevant
information during commissioning, saving/download of
settings and download of software updates.
The PPU is a compact all-in-one unit designed for
generators running:
- stand-alone
- parallel with other generators
- parallel with the mains
The PPU is well-suited for PLC-controlled systems,
interfacing can be done via binary and analogue I/O’s or
via (optional) serial communication.
The PPU carries out a cyclical self-test, displaying error
messages in clear text and indicating errors with relay
outputs, should any errors occur.
Display
DEIF A/S
The display is separate, for mounting directly on the
PPU or in the panel front, connected via cable (option
J).
Standard functions
Synchronisation
- frequency control with programmable slip freq.
- voltage matching possible
- breaker ON pulse at exact sync. point with
programmable generator breaker delay time
- “black busbar” operation of generator breaker
possible
Power or frequency control
The PPU can control the power or frequency in 4
different modes with selection of internal
(programmable) or external +/- 10 VDC set point.
By combining these all operation schemes of a
generator can be implemented. The modes are selected
via binary inputs or (optional) serial interface.
- fixed frequency (standalone running)
- fixed power (parallel with mains)
- droop (controlled frequency drop with increasing
load)
- load sharing (generators in parallel, island operation)
The PPU performs programmable ramp-up and rampdown of the power in connection with breaker
operations.
Generator protection
All protection functions have definite time characteristic. Inverse time characteristic can be chosen for:
- overcurrent (2 levels)
- reverse power
4 programmable relay outputs for alarm/trip.
Measured and calculated values
