MODA Tequila
Masterfully Blended
100% Blue Weber Agave
Moda is the world’s only Ultra Premium tequila with a deep black color.
Its soft amber hues foreshadow the woody savor to follow.
Our methodology: first we cure our Reposado 100% Blue Agave in a charred white oak barrel, eliciting the
unique color and flavor. We then further age it for nine months. Finally we amalgamate the refined three-year
aged Extra Aῆejo, adding our signature triple internal roasting process.
Exquisitely Smooth
Extra-Anejo
The result is our proprietary blend of these two tequila classes. The short-term aged zest of Reposado and the
seasoned, complex flavor of Extra-Aῆejo yields the best of both worlds of the maturation process. This allnatural crafting method, unique to the world of tequila, has made it possible to achieve a singular color and
taste without artificial coloration.
Aged in Charred Oak Barrels
Moda tequila first animates the senses with an aroma that ascribes to caramel and cocoa. Once bathing the
palate, it releases delicate herb, timber and rustic woody flavors with a touch of brine, concluding with an even
finish that is the epitome of smooth.
Moda is the first and finest natural black tequila in the world, with an exquisite flavor, taste, and appearance. An
emerging secret, fully formed.
Our Story... In Mexico there is a drink named Charro Negro, or Black Charro, made with tequila, lemon, salt, and
a splash of cola to color it dark. For many years our Master Distiller envisioned creating tequila modeled on his favorite drink,
the Charro. His idea was to bring the special dark color naturally and directly to the tequila itself and with it a dynamic new
flavor.
Working for decades in a tequila factory in the heart of Mexican agave country, Jalisco, had given our Master Distiller a nose
for what makes tequila special. The key, he found, lies in the aging process. He set about testing a new procurement and
maturation progression, laboring to find the perfect combination of taste and unique color. Perfectionism comes with the price
of time. After four years of trial and error, the Master’s vision was finally born out in the ultra premium purity of Moda Tequila.
Our Process... Moda Tequila is charred barrel aged in high-grade oak wood drums where it absorbs the rich
amber/black from the cured barrel lining naturally. But more than just coloring the alcohol, the charred aging imbues a warm,
rustic savor into the agave notes, with a medium intensity that evokes the essence of wood, vanilla, and herb.
Our Master Distiller’s goal is to bring a fresh perspective and excitement to the tequila market, respecting the agave’s deep
history in Mexico while instilling a modern look and flavor to the traditional and best-loved qualities of tequila.
Moda Tequila has already generated great excitement and recognition for its refined character yet bold taste, and unique look
and style. Anticipation is high for our forth-coming Blonde and Aged premium tequilas.
The Method...
Seeding
Our fertile acres in Jalisco, Mexico are sowed with 100% Blue Weber Agave seed, then nurtured and tilled for years until plants
are matured for harvest.
Harvesting
Havesters called jimadores shave the sharp, pointed leaves off the plant until the core of the agave is reached, commonly called
agave hearts or pineapples.
Cooking
The pineapples are placed in autoclaves and pressure cooked at 212°F for eighteen hours. A process called hydrolysis releases
the sugars and juices called meads that will help in the fermentation process.
Grinding
A crusher reduces the pineapples to bagasse fibers which are squeezed dry, and the resulting juices are collected and readied for
fermentation.
Fermentation
The musts are sent to steel tanks where natural chemical reaction converts the sugars into ethanol by yeast.
Distillation
The must is separated from the alcohol in a steel pot called the destrozador. A second distillation procedure creates crystalline
natural tequila with a graduation of 55% alcohol by volume.
Maturation
The Reposado is placed in charred, white oak barrels for a period of nine months. It is put through a triple internal roasting
process, blended with our premium aged Aῆejo, and bottled for your evolving taste.
