General description 1
Vallisneria L., 1753
Description 2,3
Submerged perennial dioecious herbs. Leaves linear, radical , sessile, lacking a midrib; tip obtuse;
margin entire or minutely serrate. Flowers unisexual, floating. Male flowers free-floating on surface;
female flowers floating, attached to plant by long peduncle. Sepals 3. Petals 1 (male) or 3 (female),
minute. Fruit a narrow cylindric capsule.
