Two Exclusive Brunnera introductions
That Deer Won't Touch!
Holland, MI – February 4, 2008 -Exclusive mail-order introduction from Great Garden Plants,
Inc.
Great Garden Plants, Inc. is offering two new Brunnera for the spring 2008 season. Brunnera,
an elegant spring flowering shade perennial is noted for not only their delightful spring flowers
but also attractive three season foliage that deer won't touch!
Brunnera 'Emerald Mist' PPAF - This colorful and vigorous
selection has bold strokes of antique silver splashed against the
dark green foliage. Leaves grow to an amazing 5" across and
remain colorful for the entire spring, summer, and fall growing
season. Brunnera 'Emerald Mist' has much more distinctive silver
barring in its foliage and is considered a vast improvement over
Brunnera 'Langtrees'.
Brunnera 'King's Ransom' PPAF - This exclusive introduction
from Great Garden Plants has giant, 5" heart-shaped silver leaves
with green veins and broad gold-yellow bands surrounding the
leaf edges. This variegated sport of 'Jack Frost' PP13859 provides
a multi-seasonal color show and has proven to be detested by
deer. A great, new colorful addition to the shade perennial garden.
Both introductions come by way of Walters Gardens, Inc. of Zeeland Michigan, a wholesale
perennial grower who also introduced two other stellar Brunnera including 'Jack Frost' PP13859
and 'Looking Glass' PP17829.
Brunnera is Zone hardy 5-9 and prefers a deep, moist soil with plenty of organic matter for best
performance. Grow in shade to part shade. (Morning sun is preferred over afternoon sun) They
grow 15-18" high and 18" across. Wispy sprays of delightful blue flowers appear in spring.
Brunnera is a versatile shade perennial that is easy to grow, performs superbly in containers,
demonstrates high deer resistance, and promises three season of interest in the shade garden.
Garden designers will appreciate the remarkable versatility of shade loving Brunnera that
combine well with spring bulbs, dark leaf Heucheras, Carex, Ophiopogon, Hostas, ferns and
shrubs.
