Description
Liquidambar is a long lived deciduous tree
with an average height of 10 to 15 metres in
Perth conditions.
Bark is deep and furrowed. Large palmate
leaves with generally five lobes are a middeep green during summer. Depending on
the seasonal conditions the leaves change
colour in autumn to shades of yellow, orange,
copper, red and purple prior to falling. Many
people find that Liquidambars resemble
Maple trees.
Insignificant greenish flowers appear each
year while the tree is exhibiting new growth.
Intermittent mature trees can be found
growing on verges throughout the City,
principally dating from the 1930’s through to
the 60’s.
