The Morphological Differences of Sansevieria zeylanica RESEARCH-BASED LEARNING REPORT To Fulfill Requirement Of English Biology II Even Semester 2013/2014 By Group 3 Ridho Safna Aisyah Zumira Risa Andriani PGMIPA-U BIOLOGY EDUCATION PROGRAM FACULTY OF TEACHER TRAINING AND EDUCATION UNIVERSITY OF RIAU PEKANBARU 2014 Introduction Plants are living things that need nutrients for their survival, as living organisms plants naturally produce their own food or given by humans, so there is some differences in Sansevieria trifasciata plant that growth at different points of its life which is growing directly on the ground and growing in the pot. This research is done in order to compare morphological differences of the growth of Sansevieria zeylanica which live directly on the ground and live in the pot. Material and Methode The object of observation is Sansevieria zeylanica. The equipments are ruler to measure the width and the length of the leaves, pen, notebook to collecting the data, and phone camera to take photos. The methods of this observation is, first we choose 3 samples of Sansevieria zeylanica that planted on the ground and in the pot. In each sample we measure the length and width of the leaves by using ruler. Result and Disscussion From the observations that we done, we collected the data and make it based on the table below. Final data: Criteria Leaf Length (cm) Leaf Width (cm) Colour References 70 – 90 5-6 Green Field plant 47,4 4,2 Green Pot plant 41,65 4,17 Green Based on the table, we can see the differences of leaf size between the pot plant, field plant, and based on the references. The growth of Sansevieria zeylanica on the ground is better than the plant in the pot. The factor that may affect the differences is the attendance of detritivor. So it can increase the nutrition in the soil. In open space of soil, Sansevieria zeylanica’s root can grow more and freely. So it can absorb more nutrition in the soil. For the color, there is no significant difference. Because color usually depend on the light intensity. Conclusion Based on the data that we collect, we found some morphological differences between field plant, plant in the pot, and based on the references. From the averages, we can see that the differences is not too significant. But field plant grow better than the plant in the pot Appendix Raw data: Sample 1 2 3 Total Average Field plant Length Width (cm) (cm) 38,8 4,1 58,3 4 45,1 4,5 142,2 12,6 47,4 4,2 Pot plant Length Width (cm) (cm) 52,7 4,9 34,6 3,8 37,65 3,77 124,95 12,47 41,65 4,17 References Anonim (2014).
